Hi everyone,
Owned Tivo's for 15-20yrs. Never had to open one up until today! Words like Kickstart + DVRBars are new to me, but I'm willing to learn. Unit has worked fine for past 13-14yrs, now it only does "Welcome, starting up".

Tivo Premiere 500GB
Model TCD746500.
Lifetime Access Plan.
HD: WD5000AVDS 500Gb.
PS: AcBel Model ST8015 ID:BW0G

When I plug in the power cord:
- All LEDs flash on for ~1sec. Green. Yellow. Blue. Red. Red.
- Green LED stays on, all others turn off.
- Fan turns on and stays on.
- HD spins and makes normal HD noises for 2-3 seconds. Then HD goes silent… but I think it is still spinning?
- TV displays "Welcome! Starting up…"
- No sound through the AV Receiver.

After several hours....
- TV still displaying "Welcome, starting up".
- Green LED on Tivo still on.
- The LED on the remote control flashes yellow when I push buttons on the remote, but no lights flash on the DVR.
- The remote still powers the TV ON/OFF and mutes the receiver on/off.

I've never used kickstart. I tried power cycling and pressing the pause key. But I never see flashing yellow LED on front of Tivo box. It keeps powering up to "Welcome, starting up".

Q1: Does this sound like a dead HD or something else like PS or motherboard?

Q2: What does it mean if you can't get into kickstart? Does it happen a lot?

Q3: What should I try next?

Q4: Does it have any re-sale value since it has the lifetime plan?

Thanks!

Thanks G!
The Lifeguard quick check fails w/ status code 07 (Failed read test element). Extended test fails with "found bad sectors that may be repairable". CrystalDiskInfo warns that code C5 has a pending sector count of E7(hex).

I ordered a WD30EFRX 3TB WD Red Plus NAS Internal Hard Drive - 5400 RPM, CMR.
I downloaded DVRBars v1.0.0.7.

Q1: Can you please send a 3T image for a 746500?
Q2: Is there a cheatsheet how to apply the image onto the new disk? I'm reading the 100 page thread on DVDBar… but I'm not sure what to do. I'm not backing up the 500G drive onto the new 3T. Am I backing up the new image to the new 3T?

Thanks!

Please enable Conversations in your privacy settings so I can send you a link to the image.

Just restore the new image to the 3TB drive.
