Season thread for the Netflix series Locke & Key, based on the graphic novels of the same name.

I've finished the season so after this I'll be starting to discuss the entire season and spoilers for season 1 are fair game.

I personally would prefer to allow un-spoilerized discussion of the graphic novels here as well but I'm not sure what others think.

Well, I was enjoying this as "OK" until the last episode or two. I'm not sure I'll be back for S02 (well, I'm sure I'll at least start it, who am I kidding?)

I was just disappointed in the last few episodes and the ending. Mainly, I can't get over how stupid everyone is. Example: you have very dangerous, supernatural keys. You know that there's a Big Bad that wants them. You further know that Big Bad cannot take them from any of the Locke kids. And you need someone to go get a magical crown to make one of the more powerful and dangerous keys work. So what do you do? You send someone who is not a Locke to go get the crown, and take the key with them!! There's absolutely no reason for such stupidity except for plot service. And there were various other idiotic moves.

I was hoping that Kinsey's fear would show up and do something useful, but no.

I was disappointed with how they handled Erin Voss in the show; I thought the novel had a more interesting plot for her.

In general I wish that this was a one season show and had stuck more closely to the graphic novels, rather than changing things to allow for more seasons.

But maybe that's a downside of having read the source material.

Also I know these are young kids but the actor who played Bode was not, to me, that great.

On the plus side the special effects and cinematography were really good. One good thing about S02, if there is one, is there are still some really cool keys out there which I hope they'll be able to find.

I agree - it probably would have been better as a movie or mini-series. Some of the acting from ALL of them was pretty bad. I thought the girl playing Kinsey was almost as bad as the kid. Also - I don't know her real name but the woman who played Abby in Scandal cast here as the Mom? SO MIS-CAST. I just don't buy her as the mother of 3.

Finished this up last night. I do agree about the stupidity of letting the crown key leave but I didnt see the ending coming. Maybe I wasnt paying enough attention.

Overall, I enjoyed it and look forward to Season 2.

And the kid who played Bode was horrible. Why chose him?
I agree. So much of the story hinges on the Bode character. They needed someone more solid to play him. It's like if they cast a bad actor to play Will Robinson in the new Lost in Space. The whole show would suck. Fortunately, in that particular case, the actor they cast is very solid.

I pretty much saw the ending when they dropped the line: "with the identity key, he can be anyone he wants to." The only reason they ever say something like that is to clue you in that it will be a major plot point later. Maybe I've just watched too many shows to be surprised anymore.

Elle was an idiot to use the Echo key because she was "lonely". Really? Maybe join a dating app. or get some therapy? Nah, I'll just bring back a horrifically powerful evil demonic force cause this time I'm sure it will be different. Then after it all goes South I will continue lying about it because I'm "scared". Even after the guy I'm scared of murders someone in front of me, I'll just keep helping him. Yeah I know, she was "scared". Come to think of it, maybe being tossed into a hell dimension is a proper punishment for her...

Yes, they did make stupid decisions over and over again, but a lot of characters in a lot of series make stupid decisions over and over again. I too pretty much saw the ending coming. Having a key that can change identity meant a swap was going to happen. I wasn't sure who was getting tossed into the portal, but I knew it wasn't the big bad.

Looking forward to S2, at least to the extent that there may be a whole lot of series that I'll watch before I get around to this one, but it's still on the list.
