I recently revived a 540040 Tivo using a 300GB drive and an InstantCake CD. After multiple dial-ins via the phone line, the Tivo is still running 7.2.0-oth-01-2-540 software. I picked up a Linksys USB200M from a local retailer in hopes of connecting the Tivo to my network. It appears that the 2.1 version isn't supported in the 7.2.0 software. According to Tivo, it needs to be 7.2.2 or higher. Is there anyway to upgrade the 540040 to 7.2.2+ software or am I forced to return the USB adapter?

That is a shame that IC is only 7.2.0-oth-01-2-540. (That was the last version I got back in December too. I assume they haven't posted a newer version. :( )

If you are lucky enough to have a regular phone, then I would just keep trying. It will update. Are you forcing connections? You can sign up for the 9.1 priority list, although that shouldn't be necessary to get to a more current version.

Thanks for the link to the priority list. I signed up last night. I forced a call on my Series2 and TivoHD this morning. The TivoHD received the 9.1 update just fine. When I left for work, the Series2 was still downloading the update. Hopefully it will complete successfully. I use VOIP and it's very difficult to get a call to succeed without interruption.

Prior to adding my boxes to the priority listed, I successfully completed 3-4 calls over a two day period. At no point was a SW update downloaded.

Thanks

After 8-10 call attempts, I was able to successfully download the 9.1 update. The USB adapter was detected immediately and I had broadband up and running in no time. I'm really pleased that Tivo continues to support older hardware.
