I'm replacing an S2 with a HD. My current setup has a Linksys USB to ethernet adapter and a long USB cord out of the Tivo to the adapter.

Will the USB/ethernet adapter work with the HD? Otherwise, I'll have to buy yet another (ethernet) cable.

Likely not.

Just get a longer ethernet cable, or an ethernet patch and RJ45 coupler.

I assume you mean you use a wireless usb adapter. Otherwise you would not need an adapter at all?

Also, what all do you use it for, when you say it works?

Do you only use it to get your updates from tivo or are you also able to perform other home networking functions, which now would only be streaming music from pc and maybe viewing pictures from pc?

The OP has an S2, which doesn't have a built-in ethernet jack like the S2DT or the HD boxes.

But if you had kept reading, you would have seen that he/she continues to use the adapter on the TivoHD. Hence my assumption of wireless.

I've read (and someone even posted here above) that the USB-to-ethernet adapters still work on the S3 and THD boxes even though they have a built-in jack.

I'm speculating, but let's assume the OP has a wired router, no wireless. To connect the old S2 to the network, he's run a long USB cable from his TiVo to somewhere near his router, and then connects an ethernet cable from the router to the USB-to-ethernet adapter. This gets his TiVo on the wired network.

If I understood the OP, he switched out the S2 for a THD and wanted to use the existing long-USB-cable-to-ethernet-adapter setup rather than running a long ethernet cable to the built-in jack of the THD.

Again, no wireless involved.

Yes, The OP made it clear that he simply didn't want to buy a longer ethernet cable if he didn't have to.
