Premiered tonight (Friday Jan 10, 2020 my mom's 86th birthday) on NBC. Based on the character created by Jeffery Deaver.

So what did everyone think? I'm kinda mixed on this one. I've read most of his books (Lincoln Rhyme or not), and really enjoy them. Saw the movie, but so long ago I don't remember much. I liked the cast, and the story moves along.

So why the mixed feelings? First, they titled it after one book, one single case. There are over a dozen Lincoln Rhyme novels, so why just one case? Does this mean we spend every episode hunting for the BC? Or will it be a background yet ever-present story arc while we solve the Case of the Week? And if he finally solves it, does the series end? Or rename itself? Either way, I feel like they are starting with a fence around the potential story lines.

I also thought they shoved too much into this first episode. We had to meet every character, resolve 2-3 crimes, and get background on anyone who matters. Just too much. It felt like an expositional cram job. We never had time to breathe, to absorb the story. This may just be S1E1 jitters, we'll see.

Having said all this, I still liked it, and am looking forward to seeing how it develops. It was an enjoyable pilot, my above nits notwithstanding.

I’m not sure why they went with that title. When it was first picked up, the series was just called Lincoln which isn’t a very good title either for different reasons, but Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector isn’t exactly a catchy title.

I liked it. Strong performances all around. I don’t know if we needed 2 back stories (though the opening where we see what BC did to him wasn’t long and maybe it’s not technically a backstory if it’s part of the linear narrative) but I think for a pilot it did a good job setting up the show and having a quick whodunit to solve.

I am concerned that with that title they’ll be stuck having the entire show be about him chasing down the BC and at some point having these super smart and super sharp characters doing something stupid and out of form just to keep the chase going. But for now I’ll sit back and enjoy.

I hate serial killer plots and “meh-ed” the Denzel/Angelina movie so entered the show with a side-eye. However, I loved all of the first episode — technology, characters, actors, storyline, score, photography, and script. The Rhyme variant of “pride goes before destruction” was brillant. The heroics, though sappy, were great.

When the nurse said, “I like her”, I said “Me too” at the same time Rhyme did.

Some elements were predictable but not irritatingly so.

I still hate serial killers.

From Deadline.com:
The producers did not tease a first season story arc, but said each episode will have a closed procedural story. Unlike the pilot, producers said the series would very rarely flash back to Rhyme's days before his accident, and the story would be dominated by the current story line.

I missed the initial run so recorded the one last night. Padded it's by an hour because if the NFL game. Well the have must have ended on time but there was about 5 minutes of special weather reporting before they "resumed" the show already in progress! Stupid!

Anyhow, it was alright. I remember watching the movie thinking Angelina with those runway lips did not look like a rookie cop. Neither does this one. It's that from the books? At least this one can run much more convincingly than Jolie.

Here's the biggest thing I remember about the original movie:

Back in the days of DVDs, my friend and I would watch the trailer (usually on the DVD itself) before the movie. Unfortunately, the trailer spoiled it for me, because it revealed the identity of the bad guy.

The actor of the bad guy as a distinctive voice, and the trailer had him threatening the protagonists. Once I saw him on screen, I knew that it was him.

Thanks for this, and now I'm out. I liked the first episode well enough, and I like the long serial story where they would hunt for the serial killer. But I'm not a fan of procedural cop shows, and toward the end of the show, I started to realize that's where they were going with this. So, it's really not my thing. If they had stuck to the serial killer story, I'd have stayed in.

It was intriguing enough of a start. I agree with @Beryl that the main character is pretty likable. (Contrast with Elizabeth's Keen's first season on the Blacklist.) The one thing I found irritating is the visuals on Lincoln's screen were nearly impossible to view and ended up being pretty distracting.

Is there any background in the books about why he's bed-ridden as opposed to being able to be in a wheelchair? He seemed to be supporting his upper body in the bed, not leaning back against it.

Glad to hear there will be more cases rather than just this one. When the episode ended I thought there was no way they could keep this story interesting for very long.
