I have been using my TIVO on directv and the unit was hit by lightning and took out most of the Sat channels. But remarkably, the TIVO itself is still working. The Directv guys replaced my unit with a DVR (non-TIVO) unit.
So now the big question, is it worth hacking into the old TIVO and turn it into something useful even though the receiver portion is no good?
I have a Linux computer background even though I haven't as yet tried to hack a Tivo.
Am I able to channel TV content from my computer (using a video card) to the TIVO in order to record the content?

Or should I toss it out in the trash, or put it on Ebay for disassembly hacking purposes? Thanks in advance for your help. :)
