Leaving DTV, what to do with equipment?

1105 Views 5 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  magnus
I switched to FiosTV today and will be disconnecting my service with DirecTV sometime this week. I have an HR10-250 and a standard def Tivo box (think its the Phillips model.)

The HR-250 is almost two years old and the HDMI still works. The standard def box is almost 4 years old.

My question: what should I do with the boxes? Is there a market for them? If so, what steps should I take (I assume clear and delete) before selling them? Do I sell the access cards as well?

Any help/direction you guys could give would be greatly appreciated.

You can look at eBay and see what these boxes are selling for. Their value is diminishing daily, but you may still get something for them. Alternatively, you can pull the hard drives and use them in your computer.

No real need to clear and delete. Nothing much can be done (apart from viewing your saved programs) without an active subscription.
Sounds like you probably own the receivers but just in case you lease them you will have to send them back to DirecTV. Otherwise e-Bay them or many boards like this have a forum for advertising equipment. Of course you just did that with this post. :)
And to make it easier on the buyer, make sure that there are no outstanding charges against the units.
Thanks for all the input guys. I appreciate it.
Don't sell them with the access cards..... read your newest agreement from D*. Also, make sure that they are not leased and that you have no commitments (real or otherwise).
