I expect it to be bad but I'll watch at least a couple of episodes.

Some of it is likely to be cringeworthy, starting with the facts that (a) Buddhist nuns shave their heads, and (b) even those just on a martial arts tour would put any long hair in a ponytail so they could see what the heck they're doing, lol. Also (c), that's clearly Vancouver and not San Francisco.

As we discussed over on the New Shows thread, there's also the typical CW script targeting the core CW female 18 to 34 demographic, and the 18-34 males they've tried to bring along in recent years, both totally not me, lol. I still expect it to be fun though.

And it's a significant step in representation, given how controversial it was to choose David Carradine for the lead role in the original shows. The Asian actors association actually sued over that, but at the time had to settle for a Chinese historical advisor and the promise of more Asian roles in the show.

This goes along with things like Godzilla Vs Kong, where you need to leave your brain at the door and just go along for the ride. Once you try to analyze things like this, all attempts at enjoyment/entertainment dissipates!

I'll be giving it a try. As long as it does entertain, it could be a fun ride.

That's the spirit, Grasshopper. Empty your mind, be like water. Or something.
Honestly, based on the previews I expect this show to be a CW cluster.....

The original show had some interesting story ideas (especially with it being set in the old West) with interesting philosophical discussion introduced.

"The Legend Continues...." was a cluster.....

From what I've read and seen, I'm guessing that Nicky will have only been training for a relatively short time (as opposed to the decade or so that the actual Shaolin monks did in the past) but will be incredibly amazing at Kung Fu.

I know that there's more representation here (with an Asian showrunner) but still... well let's say I don't have my hopes up right now.

At least the fight scene was great!

They seem to be setting up an explanation for that...

Females 18-34 are the target demographic for a show where the highlight of each episode (if it follows the format of its predecessor) will be the fight scenes?

You dropped the second half of my sentence...

But yes, the main character is written to represent and appeal to the core demographic, while still presenting enough butt-kicking to appeal to both segments.

I only match the gender.

Why is it that my TiVo states that it will be recorded in SD even though it is playing on a HD channel?

They are replaying S1E1 on TNTHD on Sunday (which is great since I missed it) but no other episodes are listed on TNT.
Watched the first episode and it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. It reminded me of The Iron Fist and Wu Assassins. I will be watching another before deciding the fate of the OnePass.
It was all right for a first episode. Set the story, introduce the family dynamic, fight a local threat, discover a greater threat is looming.

We'll have to see how it goes, but at this point all it has to do is out-coherent "Debris" .

It was ok-ish. I don't fit any demo (old, white, male), except the "watched Kung Fu religiously back in the 70s" demo. This is barely related, more in name than anything else. But I'll try a couple more for now. It wasn't terrible.

I've seen Charmin commercials, with the little bear who keeps rubbing his butt, that out-coherent Debris.

Well, we'll see.
Right now, it's three years in a temple (which doesn't exist) and she's a Kung Fu Master.
(To be fair, this is true of many other shows especially other Greg Berlanti shows.)

Ok, it wasn't as bad as I feared it was going to be.
I'm not sure I like the potential of having real mystical elements as the original show had pretty much none.
(And "The Legend Continues..." going overboard on them contributed to my dislike of that version.)
There was also more philosophical discussion in the original.

Certainly, some tropey elements with the family and the hot scholar guy but not that bad.

The martial arts choreography is pretty good for TV although I'm not convinced that Olivia Liang was really up to snuff when this was shot.
(I noticed some awkward moves when she was at the temple. It was better in the city but since they were shooting at variable frame rate, she may not have been moving at full speed.)

And there were a couple of Mandarin pronunciations that made me wince a bit but not terrible for an American/Canadian production.

I'll watch for now but if Chris Potter shows up, I can't say that I'll stick around.
