kmttg/pytivo suddenly can't pull in Now Playing List

I recently cut my Comcast cable, so the need to transfer my stuff to my Windows 10 PC arose. I had used kmttg plenty in the past successfully, though I don't use it very often. So I fired it up, got the Now Playing List to show up and started transferring some shows overnight. I checked the next morning. Some shows transferred. Some did not. Not atypical. Now, no matter what I do, I can not get the Now Playing List to show up. I have Google Fiber. kmttg can auto-detect the TiVo just fine. It just errors out after a minute on the Now Playing List complaining about checking the MAK and IP settings (which I have). Nothing has changed. I also tried putting kmttg on a macbook and it gives the same error. The MAK matches. The IP address is correct. I've tried changing the IP address manually on the TiVo to a few different numbers. Same problem. I tried connecting the TiVo directly to the router. Same problem. I have never used pytivo before, but it detects the TiVo just fine but spins trying to get the Now Playing List. I have rebooted TiVo/router multiple times. Did something get borked up on my TiVo during a file transfer? Some crappy Java update? I changed out the power supply a few months ago because it went bad, but it has been fine. Is it because I took the cable cards out or disconnected the coax? It would be nice to fix this problem, but if anyone has a workaround for getting the shows off that would be good too? It has an external 1TB hard drive attached to it.

RPC does not work with S3 Tivos. Javascript will still fetch now playing list.
kmttg > file > configure > "TiVo" tab > uncheck enable RPC communication; for tivo in question.
Thanks for the response. I will give that a try when I get home. TiVo model is DVR F153.

No luck on this. I even messed with the config.ini to make sure there wasn't weird stuff going on. Keep getting the:

***
http IO exception for: https://192.168.1.124/TiVoConnect?C...aying&Recurse=Yes&ItemCount=32&AnchorOffset=0
Unexpected end of file from server
Failed to retrieve Now Playing List from xxxxxxxFF153
Check YOUR MAK & IP settings
***

I've tried disabling my firewall. I can browse to http://192.168.1.124 and see the "hey, your tivo is on your network". If browse to httpS://192.168.1.124, it questions the certificates not being trustable, so maybe there's a certs issue. No idear.
I have Comcast and a Tivo HD. I can get a NPL from my Tivo HD through kmttg with RPC disabled as mentioned earlier, but it takes a couple of minutes to display. You could try limiting the number of NPL fetches in kmttg to see if that helps. Browsing to my Tivo HD web address with https also gives me a warning, but if I disregard the warning and browse anyway, I get the NPL in the browser.

Since Comcast changed to Mpeg-4 recordings a while ago, I cannot directly transfer those recordings from my Tivo HD to a PC. The workaround for getting those Mpeg-4 recordings to a PC is to transfer them to another Tivo (Premiere or newer) and then transfer from that Tivo to a PC. Kind of a pain because it requires another Tivo.

I had already tried messing with the NPL counts. On my series 3, from my pc I can browse to the red "(paraphrasing) congrats, your tivo is connected on your network", but I can't actually view the NPL from a web browser. I had never tried until I ran into issues, so it's hard for me to say if it's always been that way or not. Getting another tivo to transfer to would be worth it, but a gamble if it would work since I don't know what issue I'm having. Thanks.

To get to the NPL through a browser, you have to use the https: page and ignore the certificate warning.
  • In a browser, hit https:\\<TiVoIPAdress>
  • Ignore certificate warning
  • Enter tivo for username and MAK for password

Yeah Scott, I know. I had already tried that :( Thanks for trying.

Is it possible that you are not using the right MAK which could explain no NPL coming up.

I didn't see any information about what error you get after you enter "tivo" and your MAK in the post above?

If I go to httpS://ip and enter username/pw, it just times out:
This page isn't working
192.168.1.124 didn't send any data.

ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE

If I go to http://ip (no username/pw), it takes me to the generic red tivo page.

I want this to be the problem, but doesn't seem like it is. It matches and it suddenly stopped working without me fiddling with settings. I have retyped it a few times per what it says it is in the tivo box screen settings.

Not sure what could cause this since you've mentioned that you have rebooted the TiVo and using the correct username/MAK. Your other choice would be to try another hard drive with a clean image to see if the OS has been corrupted somehow (disk issue?).
