This was MUCH better than last week. Still not up to the standards of the BBCA version, but pretty good.

Martin was a HUGE tool, but Mohammed should've fired him the second he came up to the table and started yelling. These owners need to grow a pair and learn how to fire their employees. I love how they say they'll do everything Gordon recommends, but in this and the British version, they're all chickens.

I was really pleased they focused more on the renovation process this week, but I wish they would have covered the food preparation more. Not sure I like the idea of a consulting chef instead of Ramsay in the kitchen either, though I suppose they needed to find someone, as there were no viable head chef candidates there.

And FOX needs to stop the music in every scene. Now.

I thought it was pretty damn awesome. We were laughing our asses off at that tool martin. I felt bad for the owner letting people take advantage of him like that. Martin also ended the show as the biggest tool ever by quitting instead of being fired losing any unemployment. That restraunt was so freaking disguesting it was unreal. I can only imagine a person seeing the episode and having ate at that place before gordon got there to fix it. The consulting chef was a great idea and I am sure he is pretty damn talented if gordon brought him in.

I agree this episode was almost as good as the brit version and much improved over last week.

I do think they need to get out of New York soon. I realize NYC is a culinary beacon for the US, but I'd like to see some expansion.

I thought the episode was good except for the customers. It seemed more like Hell's Kitchen when it came to them. Are these people paid actors too?

LMAO at the guy hugging Ramsay and not letting go.

Rat droppings, cockroaches in the freezer, flies everywhere, rotting tomatoes, moldy burgers, ewwwwwwwwwww.

It amazes me that the everyone knew about those problems, but apparently did nothing to correct them. Didn't anyone make the connection that those things=no customers and realize that they had to fix them to stay in business?

I think it was pretty clear that the customers were not actors, but they were brought in to test the food.

Serously, how else would they get people to come in and eat at that place! I think the people at the end however were just there as a result of the promotion that they put on.

I disagree. I think they were actors. Hell, half of the original pre-renovation 'customers' ended up on the bus tour. I thought that was pretty odd.

I am glad that Gordan brought in the consultant, would have been pretty cheeky to try to make us think he is a master of Indian Cuisine as well.

My wife asked the question 'Why would anyone want to be on this show?' Seems like it would just open you up to be sued.

It's ok for me but falls far short of the UK version. The reason is that Gordon does all the work in this one, rather than forcing the owners to do it themselves. In this episode, Gordon arranges for the entire cleaning, arranges for the entire redecoration of the restaurant and then provides a new chef. Apparently Gordon also paid for all this. All the owner/managers/original chef had to do was stand around and watch. I've never owned a restaurant and know nothing about Indian cuisine but if Gordon did all that for me I suspect I could make a go of it for awhile.

The enjoyment of the UK version is watching owners/chefs suck it up and make drastic changes on their own. And on their own nickel (or pence). This one is really all about Gordon. That's not terrible but it's not as fulfilling.

I love it when the cooks makingmy food (These people are not Chefs) are making it on the floor, thats ideal. Also the rotten tomato that was sliced and served was disturbing.

I agree that this was a great improvement over last week though. I wonder if Martin will find a new job where the waitresses run their hands through his hair while he naps :)

much better than last week. But it still looks like the show wants to focus attention on a specific person. I guess is because that is the standard formula for a lot of reality TV. Chef Ramsey is the good guy in the white hat and someone has to wear the black hat. That's gotta be an actual person.

Not that this is all that bad. It IS a TV show, afterall.

Along that same line, I went in to a Mobil on the Run this morning to get my 64oz Dr. Pepper for $.99 and the store had tons of flies. I immediately thought of last night's episode and almost did not want to buy the soda. I did, and I did also tell the store manager he should look into why they have so many flies given that they do not leave the door propped open. Yuck! I am still grossed out from lst night........

I totally agree. This is the big difference between the UK and US versions. In the UK version, he tries to teach them how to run a restaurant, and then he finds out if the lesson took. In the US version, he pretty much just gives them a whole new restaurant, and pretends everything is fixed. I bet if either of the first two US restaurants were revisited, they would be utter disasters.

This was quite a bit better than the first episode. I guess I will have to stop trying to compare it with the UK version, because it's never going to reach that standard.

I was starting to wonder about the editing in regards to Martin, but when he quit, that released any doubts in my mind about whether he was really incompetent. If he had any clue about how to do the job, I think he would have fought for it.
