Peter was a major tool. Everyone else seemed at least semi-competent. With him there I doubt their ability to be succesful.

I forgot this was starting tonight, so I only got to see the last few minutes... and already, I'm turned off. It seems they borrowed much of the style from "Hell's Kitchen" in the interest of ramping up the reality show style drama, and also emphasized the "evil" Ramsay more than the UK version.

I'll try and tune in next week to see if it's as bad as I think it is, or if I too hastily judged the show based on the few minutes I saw.

I watched the premier episode of this (US) tonight and really enjoyed it!

Did anyone else think the head chef; Robert looked like Master Bra'tac from Stargate SG-1?

This was a fun show to watch. I'm looking forward to the next episode.

I was expecting a much more ramped up Gordo. Maybe I watch two much Hells Kitchen and am more immune to it or maybe Peter stole the show in that department on tonight's episode.

Holy crap, that was awful.

Things that need to go immediately:

1. The narrator (they should have Gordon narrate like in the UK version)
2. The background music that they used for EVERYTHING
3. The stupid computer noise when the day and time are displayed
4. The interviews with the waiters and waitresses, from which we gained absolutely no insight
5. The artificial drama (you can't tell me that the bill collector showing up at the two worst possible moments is a coincidence )

I just felt like the whole hour was extremely rushed. I missed the tried-and-true formula of Gordon trying the food, Gordon watching how they do a service, Gordon revamping the menu and teaching the kitchen staff how to cook it, and Gordon revamping the restaurant and seeing how they perform.

They also need to find restauranteurs who aren't such blatant tools. It's a given that someone's going to get pissy if Gordon tells them they suck enough, but these people were being asswipes just to be asswipes.

Finally, I missed the sympathetic Gordon Ramsay that really tries to help them instead of just uttering swear words every three seconds. You can tell they're trying to capture the Hell's Kitchen demographic, but Fox has to understand that these are two distinctly different shows.

I'll watch the next episode, but I'm not optimistic.

Not as good as the BBC version but entertaining enough. Peter had to be on roids that guy just went balistic over anything. Also what bill collector shows up at night? I am thinking maybe the bill collector might of been a loan shark. Atleast it was not all bad boy ramsay you got to see his other side some this episode. I will give it a chance I am sure it will improve as the season goes on like most shows.

But that's almost exactly what happened.

Gordon comes in, orders food. Gets stome cold crappy crab cake. Gets crappy lobster ravioli with a ton of parsley on the plate. Dinner service rolls around and he is in the kitchen watching. He inspects the kitchen. Sets up new kitchen, revamps menu, and sees a packed house.

The only thing I didn't see what any instruction on cooking.. Which was odd, considering the poor crap he had for lunch. I figured maybe they just didn't know how to cook stuff that wasn't pre-packaged.

Yes, but like I said, it was rushed. Ordinarily we see what he does to revamp the restaurant and he describes each new dish. And we certainly didn't get to see them pull off a dinner service by themselves...Peter and his father were doing it, which doesn't count.

I also didn't think I'd miss the uncensored nature of the British version this much. Hope they make any future DVD releases uncensored. Not sure if the upcoming release of the British version in Canada is or not.

It was entertainment ... but I agree about the 'bill collectors' showing up... and the crowd?!

If that was the 'best' that they could serve to GR, imagine what the customers were getting? How were they still getting people to come in the door? How does 'word of mouth' spread in one week that a former ****hole is now pretty good?

Health inspections? Were they ever in the place?

I think I'm going to find the UK show, because this was a little too much forced reality tv.

I was disappointed, too. This show simply does not need the "Hell's Kitchen" narrator and the lame music. It does not need to replay the last 45 seconds of show every time there's a commercial break. We do not need a 4 minute intro about the show and the "characters" we are about to see.

The whole "bill collector" thing was way way over the top. A bill collector driving a top of the line Lexus?? There was way too much time spent on those histrionics and not enough time on getting the restaurant's food up to par.

The end credits said that some of the patrons had their meals paid for by the producers... Lame. In the UK version I enjoy seeing Ramsay go out on the street and help drum up business for a relaunched restaurant. I know in the USA and our automobile society that's a bit different, but surely there must be a local stripmall or something that they can target people at.

So far this show has significantly less charm than the UK version. In fact it has about no charm at all. It's just another crass Fox "reality" show. I do not really want to see a roadshow version of "Hell's Kitchen," but unfortunately that is what Fox has evidently dealt up.

Myself, I got a little tired of seeing them reuse footage. Over the course of the show, we saw them restraining Peter about 5 times, the moldy crap in the fridge several times, etc. I know they are playing to the ADHD demographic, but, geez....

I completely disagree with you on this statement.

Gordon was a pussycat in this episode compared to the BBC version, and even compared to Hell's Kitchen.

But... did he really tell them how to cook? He did change up the menu... but i got from the episode that the problem with the place was basically Peter blowing through money and shoddy kitchen equipment.

GR refreshed the menu to have simpler, more defining items (did he add to or replace the menu? at one point I got the impression the patrons had a choice of old or new). But I did fully think that the chef did make the dishes himself.

Why if he was such a 'great chef' he would allow any of that crap to leave his kitchen I guess went unanswered.

Its very obvious that the same actors that visited hells kitchen also ate there on those nights. The 'family day' scene must have been MONTHS after they were operating in the black, and I can expect the patrons were real then.

All in all, it seems like all GR did was buy a whole new kitchen, and tell the owner to stop being an ass.
