I'm so happy to see Taylor off the council. I was so surprised that one of the girls flipped on Taylor, because I was convinced it would turn into a popularity contest. Taylor looked so confident she would win too!

I think Zach shows a lot of maturity for being so young. I think he'll go very far in life with that attitude. And I'm pretty sure we're going to see big changes in future in terms of the girls actually doing work on the Yellow team.

I felt really really bad for Mike. He seems like a really nice kid, and it was hard to watch him cry. Especially since he didn't get a single vote from anyone on his team. Its almost like getting picked last for kickball in grade school.

My dislike for Olivia is near an all time high. Its one thing if she doesn't like Anjay, but she goes out of her way to pick on him and try to set him off. Almost like a bully. Thats definitely not a good quality to have.

Oh, and yeah, Greg deserves the star. Too bad Zach being on the council effectively has eliminated him from the running until the next election, if there is one.

I actually felt sorry for Taylor (or at least her friend).

You can't rip down other people's posters. That's obnoxious.
Yeah, I completely agree. Was it Markelle who did that? He's such a minor character in terms of how this show is edited, that I'm not sure his name. Anyway, that was obnoxious.

Went pretty much as I expected although when I first heard that only each team would vote for their leader I thought that Taylor would win. I mean who does not like a leader that makes them do nothing? Glad to see at least one girl was smart enough to flip.

I've been saying it from week one but the Green team is one class act after another. I could not see them voting Laurel out but I did not expect nobody to even try. I was happy to see them out of the laborer class.

Greg, from what we have been seeing has deserved the gold star. Even in background shots he seems to be working a lot, whether it was calculated or not should not matter.

I was saying the same thing about Olivia tonight. It was like wow, she really likes to dig her nails in to him. You are right it's really not a good quality to have and she lost pretty overwhelmingly really.

Glad to see Greg finally got the gold star. Maybe now future gold star winners will be easier to pick.

Taylor being off the council was the best thing of all. I honestly didn't feel sorry for her. She *expects* everything to be handed to her. She doesn't *expect* to have to work for it. As a result of that attitude, she could promise all day long that she would be better, but then she would never take action. I so hope her Mommy and Daddy see what she's been like during this process and look at themselves as parents for teaching her that this attitude is good. I know that sounds harsh, but it's reality.

Great episode. One of the things I noticed - the kids ripping down the poster were red team. That's Mike's district. I suspect that his district was in a bit more disarray than the editing has led us to believe - which would help explain why Mike was ousted from the council by someone who's mostly been in the background so far.

The Green team showed a lot of class - especially since there are at least three other people on that team that are capable of leading.

I'm surprised that Anjay survived, especially so overwhelmingly. He's shown very little leadership skill. I think Olivia was just too arrogant to beat him. She spent too much time attacking Anjay, and not enough explaining her strengths. She showed just how petty she was after the votes were in and she just HAD to continue to be antagonistic.

Zach should be a good addition to the Council, and I give the girl who sided with him over Taylor a lot of credit for overcoming the peer pressure to vote for the girl candidate. I still think Taylor is a spoiled brat - but she did show a surprising amount of grace in defeat. (Of course I strongly suspect that she'll be a total sloth/deadweight to her team from here on out anyway).

Oh - and stupid decision on the reward. They had an alternative to the toothpaste (baking soda), even if it didn't taste so good. The grilled meat would've been welcome, and they really don't have a substitute for it.

Did I miss it (as I was also doing some work during the show) but did the host ask if anyone wanted to go home this week?
Nope, I don't remember the question being asked tonight. He jumped right in with the gold star. My guess is that they were short on time and nobody was close to leaving. When it was established that nobody would run against Laurel they skipped her speech, didn't even mention the green team at the election.

The food fight was awesome. That shot of the poor kid trying to eat his meal in peace had me roaring. Much more wholesome than simulated drinking games IMHO.

Meat versus tooth care. Thats a tough one. Especially since all that meat would get stuck in their teeth. They DO have cattle and chickens. If they wanted meat they could have it. I wonder why they didn't let the town vote democratically like last time. I bet the production crew was happy with the council's decision.

Man, I'm happy Taylor is gone. The way she played the other girl into going up against Markelle showed how conniving and ruthless she is. "He's ripping down YOUR poster". He didn't rip it down cause the blonde girl made it, he ripped it down because it was for Taylor. He knew he wouldn't be able to vote against her, so he did his part to stifle her campaign efforts. Not the classiest way of doing things, but that politics.

I don't know about Mike. I thought he was doing a decent job. I think the problem is his group is the middle aged kids who are more susceptible to mass mob opinion. They just wanted a change. We'll see what happens with this new kid.

I think Greg is gonna keep working hard. He seems to have assumed the big brother role and has a genuine intention to do the right thing.

When Mike said the thing about his ego being eaten by a coyote, digested, crapped out, etc... my hubby and I had to pause for several minutes of laughter. Poor kid, tho... I did feel bad for him, but that was hilarious.

Didn't he get one other vote besides his own?

No, I don't think he did. When the "Mike" vote was held up, he looked like he recognized that one as his. Then the rest were Guylan. I felt bad for him for a second because it didn't seem like he did that bad, but man, that kid always seemed just on the edge of tears! After his speech when he asked about anyone else and Guylan stepped up, he looked about to cry there. And so many times it's hard to cite them. And his 'ego' speech WAS hilarious - gotta hand that to him.

I wasn't enamoured at all with Olivia, but I think Anjay had just as much to do with his attitude - if not more - than Olivia did. "I don't even want to talk right now" later... Olivia: "do you want to talk now" Anjay: another hissy fit. later... Anjay with knife in hand (paraphrased): "Olivia's lucky she's not here right now." Holy cow, dude. Grow a set! Was there anything that she could have said to him that wouldn't have made him wig out?

I did feel bad that he wound up with chocolate sauce all over his coat - that wasn't necessary. But I did bust up when Anjay was calling for calm and Greg as headed his way and plastered him.

I mean, I know they're kids and going through something none of them have gone through before, but wow - it seems like some of the younger kids are more mature than the the coucil leaders (except Laurel).

And I think the Green Team rocks! Although I'll admit that had Laurel given just a bit more elbow to Taylor racing for the bell, and Taylor ate a little dirt? I probably would have laughed my tucuss off!

So glad to see Taylor gone. She was so lazy and obnoxious. It will be interesting to see what happens with Zach as the team leader because she's established a culture of not doing what they're supposed to and not following the leadership. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Taylor and her gaggle of girls simply don't do anything Zach says out of spite.

I kind of felt bad for Mike, and think he's a good kid overall, but I think he needs to work on his leadership abilities. He seemed to get mad really easily and simply yell at everyone to get them to do what he wanted. And he seemed to relish the fact that he got to make decisions, regardless of what the rest of the kids thought.

Next week should be pretty good.

I'm glad Taylor is off the council. I think Anjay would have gotten voted off if it was anybody but Olivia.

Poor Mike. He didn't see it coming. At least Taylor knew that people wanted her off.

And I wish the kids understood the difference between "worth its weight in gold" and "solid gold star." Just a peeve.

Best show ever; I'll definitely watch until the end now.

Green - What a great group. They really have held the town together with cleanliness and cooking. No need to change leadership.

Red - Are we more shocked because red overall is a favorite color of many people? I know that was my reason. I paid attention to red more-so simply because of the color (slick marketing). I think the showdown and the prize ultimately hurt Mike; all of the red district wanted the meat, and he didn't sway the group that way. I would rather have seen the black kid from Chicago (sorry I don't know his name) since he seems a bit more personable over the home schooled kid (again, name escapes me), but we'll see.

Yellow - No explanation needed. Zack rocks.

Blue - Blue is a weird group. Why didn't Greg run? Did he stay out so that he could win the gold star? He would have been a natural choice since he's older and has displayed leadership abilities. Anjay is a just a sensitive kid that doesn't have any man rocks, but Olivia took it too far with the bullying.

Overall, I'm impressed with the pacing of the show and the show overall. I know more is going on behind the scenes than we know, but it's a very good show. I normally don't buy DVD's, but I would keep this in my collection whenever it's released.

On a kind of weird 'Twilight Zone' kind of note, before I watched "Kid Nation" last night, I watched a program that I had previously recorded and as the closing credits were rolling, they ran an ad for Kid Nation that was focused on the election of new Town Council leaders.

Not so unusual, right? The program I saw that ad on - last night just before watching that Kid Nation episode? The recap show of the first 11 episodes of "Jericho" which aired/was recorded July 13th! I thought to myself, "Wow, what are the chances?" :)

I thought they gathered these kids from mostly gifted children programs and such? I was surprised that some of them admitted as much trouble with the list of presidents as they did. I will say that it sounded like they gave almost all "distinctive" presidents, making it easier ... but Red team had TYLER?! in their list. God, I was saying the order out loud, desperately trying to place him between two other presidents. Took me a while :p
