Kevin Can Go ____ Himself on AMC+ (regular AMC in a while)

I bought a new Roku hands-free voice remote and got a free trial for AMC+, and this is a new show. It stars Annie Murphy of Schitt’s Creek and it has a very cynical take on the sitcom.

It alternates between two kinds of scenes - some are set in the standard sitcom living room, with the extremely bright lighting and loud laugh track, with a well-meaning but bumbling husband, his wife, and, of course, the wacky neighbors; the other scenes are dramatic ones featuring Annie’s character and her friends and neighbors. These are more dimly lit, and in these you can see that the house is a bit dingy and her hair is not always perfect and that she is not very happy, she is not the usual long-suffering wife in sitcoms who has problems with her husband that are always worked out by the end of the episode.

The sitcom scenes so perfectly capture the usual lameness of most sitcoms. I’ve liked the dramatic scenes so far, but only 2 episodes are available now, will be interesting to see where it goes from here.

I just finished the first episode of this like 5 minutes ago. It is very weird. Whenever Kevin is in the scene, it is a sitcom. As soon as he walks out of the room, it turns into a gritty drama.

I'm not sure how this works with AMC+. First episode played fine. I selected the second episode, and it wanted to take me to Amazon video, where you'd have to buy it.
Interesting premise. Sounds a bit on the surreal side?
Also, the title of the show is "Kevin Can F**k Himself".

What the heck. Episode 1 won't even play for me now. Wants me to go to Amazon video. Something must just be messed up for me right now.
I watched the first ep. I applaud the creators for trying something unique, but it just doesn't work. Part of the problem is in the sitcom scenes they're basically doing a take-off of a sitcom, but it's not funny, either as a sitcom or as a take-off of a sitcom. It's amusing for about 5 minutes and then gets real annoying real fast. To watch a whole season of that would be hellish.

On my Roku, first 2 EPs available, but from now on just 1 a week.
I found this show depressing. Her life is garbage and being forced to watch the "single camera" laugh track scenes just make the experience torturous as it's not funny and just heightens her repressed anger and sad life even more. I imagined as I was watching the creators wanted that experience for us to feel the same as Allison feels. It's definitely not a "feel good show". As said earlier I also give points to the creators for trying something new. If this is a limited series I'll watch it all, but if they hope for additional seasons im not sure I would find it enjoying as it makes me feel too depressed and hopeless for Allison.

Which is upsetting because I was looking forward to this show.

I rebooted my Apple TV and was able to watch the second episode.

I like the show. Kevin is truly an awful person. Seeing it in the sitcom maybe makes it less serious. Then seeing how Allison handles it in the drama is interesting. I probably wouldn't even bother with this show if the whole thing was just a drama. I'm only watching it for the novelty. I might get sick of the show before the end of the season. We will see.
I have it set to watch on regular AMC. I saw a preview of it (oddly titled Killing Eve on my DVR), and it looked interesting. I get the feeling that a show like this might take a bit of time before it works. It reminds me of WandaVision in that it was "set" in a family sitcom, but that was only part of the story. That could be the case here too.
I started a Pass for the show on the AMC channel and look forward to it, mostly because of Annie. I hadn't seen any of the previews until I saw her on GMA yesterday. I don't usually watch GMA but sometimes cruise the guide to see who the guests are on the morning network shows. Since she was going to be there, I decided to catch the interview. They showed a clip and that was my first foray into kind of how the show rolls.

Looks interesting and not like anything else I've seen so I'll give it a go.

I'm just glad that some shows that w/b on the streaming services are also playing on their cable channels. I hated this thing where some shows moved entirely off the channel onto streaming, especially mid-stream.

Yes, and I always thought they left out a word in the series title.

I haven't watched the show yet, but I'm intrigued by the premise. But "'single camera' laugh track scenes" doesn't make any sense. I assume there's not a laugh track (studio audience laughter) during the "gritty, realistic" scenes. Those are single camera. The typical, brightly-lit sitcom scenes with audience laughter are multi-camera.
I assume new episodes are released weekly? Anyone know when episode 3 will go up on AMC+ ?

It was 12:30 am-ish my time when I wrote that and confused the single camera and multi camera. Whenever Kevin is on the screen it's sitcom style photography, once Kevin or Allison leaves the scene (show always follows Allison) it switches styles.

I'm almost done with the 2nd episode and I'm not quite sure what to think about this show. It's certainly a different approach that's never been done before, or at least not one that I'm aware of. It's like seeing the life of Allison in a sitcom but then switching to behind the scenes to see what's she's really thinking. I find the whole sitcom acting more than a little annoying and somewhat forced, but it still captures the essence of a bad sitcom. The "real" segments are done much better and I could live with the entire show being presented in this fashion, but it would lack the absurdity of Kevin's behavior and that of the father and the other braindead buddy. It's like the sitcom segments are a parody of actual sitcoms.
Definitely different. The laugh-tracked sitcom scenes almost turned me off from the series reminding me a bit of Wandavision. I kept watching and now finished both episodes on AMC+. I’ll continue to watch for a bit.

Kevin is disgusting. Sadly, I know a woman in a similar relationship for 40+ years.

The name is supposed to be a play on Kevin Can Wait.
This show definitely isn’t for me, the comedy parts aren’t funny and just make me hate Kevin and his dumb family, and the drama parts are more depressing than I’m interested in.
So now there's this thread and a spoilers thread, both with spoilers?
