I'm not sure of the specifics, but am fairly certain that tivo phases out support for older s/w versions (they no longer correctly receive guide data, IIRC)

If I am completely satisfied with say software version 7.2.2, am I safe to not update it?

well the problem is, I did a slicer update to 8.3, and lost my backport drivers. Everything works great on 7.2.2 and the slicer said that it copied jaimes backport drivers over. However, my devices die.
I realize there are alot of changes to the system from 7.2.2 to 8.3, are there known issues when slicing to 8.3, or from any 7x to 8x software?
