I have 2 Series 2 tivos with lifetime service, and have decided to give Comcast the Dump. Just signed up for Direct TV, they will be installing it in a week or so. Is there any special reciever or cabling that I need to use that will allow me to use my Series 2 Tivos ?

Thanks for your help in advance,

Are you staying Standard Definition? Your Series 2 TiVo DVRs can be used with DirecTV, but anything they record will be SD not HD. If you are good with that limitation, then yes they can work just great. You will not need, but I do recommend, that you get a serial to USB control cable so that the DVR can easily change channels on the DTV receiver without needing to use IR blasters. Check out the USB TV Translator at http://patersontech.com/products/UsbTvTranslator.aspx

This works with either SD or HD capable satellite receivers, but will only record in SD even from an HD source. You can record anamorphically so that you get the best 16x9 result in SD possible. If you record in best or high, and view on a good TV set with a decent upscaler, the results are actually pretty decent. Of course if you are using an SDTV, none of that matters, it will look fine.

Thanks,
That is pretty much what I need, so I guess I'll spend the 70.00 for 2 of these.
I have only 1 HD Television at this point in time, so I can use the HD DVR that I get with the Direct TV with that Television, and purchase the 2 USB TV translators to use with my Series 2 Lifetime units on the other SD Televisions.
Do these USB translators work pretty well ?
They work great for me. You can even program them to favor the hd or sd version of a channel using a pc.
Thanks,

What software program should I use to set that up ?
Direct TV's options ?
Thanks,

You download it free from the patersontech site. If the channel you tune to is not the one you want, SD or HD version and the next higher or lower, but with the same channel number is the one you want the TV translater can be set to add the additional ch up or ch down to the tune to channel command from the TiVo DVR. I have an SD TiVo controlling an HD receiver and want the HD versions of the channels, even when feeding the S2, so I don't need to set any of those, it just works correctly out of the box. The capability is there just in case it turns out that you would need it.
Thanks for the help !!
