Just got my new Tivo and have some questions..

Ok, I had a Series 1 Tivo, and recently(last week) received and setup my Tivo Premier (45hr HD). The Time Warner Cable guy was here for about 2hrs trying to get their system to work with the Cable Card, but he finally got it working.

1) I now notice that quite often when I change channels I get a message saying "Channel Temporarily Unavailable, Press Select to try again...". I do press Select and it does usually finally get the signal working. But when it is recording and I am not at home, sometimes it cannot do that, and it just records about 10 seconds of a blank screen. How do I fix this? Is there some way to tell Tivo to press Select again?

2a) If I decided to get a new 2tb hard drive with Tivo on it already and install that in my Tivo Premier, will I need to have Time Warner Cable send a guy out to set everything up again? Of is that setup info stored in the Tivo firmware and not on the drives??

2b) If I do get a new 2tb drive, how can I transfer my settings and recordings to the new drive?

1) Do you have a Tuning Adaptor, and is this happening on SDV channels only?
2) If you use Comer's jmfs upgrade path, you won't need to call back TWC, and all your recordings and settings will be transferred to your 2TB drive.

Call your provider. They can tell you which channels are SDV. Basically there are more SDV channels than your cable connection can simultaneously provide... SDV allows a portion of these to be delivered at any one time. If there are more SDV channel requests than the maximum allowable, one has to be cut off before another can be delivered. There's delay in that. If the SDV allocation is being used by all your neighbors, you are stuck until one of the SDV channels is vacated.

Even in the best of circumstances, there is some delay in switching SDV channels (hopefully just seconds). SDV is like having a community cable tuner box.

It sounds like you are definitely having issues with your tuning adapter. I have the same problem as you from time to time, but I hardly ever miss recordings as a result.

Try rebooting the tuning adaptor periodically - that seems to help.

Get that nag screen all the time since the addition of the tuner adapter plus the" HDMI not permitted for this device" error screen

That's a good point. I had SDV channels that would either not connect, or would drop out after 15 seconds or so. I called tech for "hits" and only one channel came back. After a day of waiting and wondering, I interrupted the TA power for 30 seconds and everything came back (knock on wood).
