Is there any way to jump ahead a full day in time on the TivoHD? Finding something recording several days from now is a pain with 1.5 hour jump increments.

Any other guide navigation shortcuts that are not obvious?

I can't wait for the eSATA expansion an MRV as well. It is a real pain to go from 100 hours (even though SD) to about 20 hours storage.

When in the guide I press the info button and it will take you to the next day or any day you want. This is on a s3 unit.

I program a macro in my mx500 to do this. When in the guide it's info>down>right>right>info or something like that. Don't remember for sure now. Just press info while in the guide and see what commands are needed. Works great.

I like some things about the TivoHD, but some serious things seem to be missing. And I remember everyone complaining that my Dish 522 receiver was so much poorer than a Tivo unit....

Why can't I have multiple favorites lists? That is the other currently really annoying thing!

I agree completely. I've had DVRs from Dish, Replay, and Motorola cable. If you get on these Tivo sites, they talk like everything else is total junk. I just got my first Tivo, and some of these little features that are missing are very disappointing. No marks in the guide for a show that is scheduled to be recorded? How stupid is that.

While that works, it is a difficult processes that involves many button presses. On my Dish unit I would often jump from night to night looking at what was on during "prime time" for a set of channels. That would be much more difficult here and it should be a single channel.

I think I have found several buttons that are unused that would work, but it would have to be enabled.

You're not using the TiVo in its intended manner, so it's no wonder that it isn't satisfying for you.

Huh? You mean I should "take what I get and love it"? Why shouldn't I easily be able to look through the guide to pick what I want to record? That is consistent with the intended use. This is especially true when Dish has a "jump a day forward" button on their remote. If I could just use one of the buttons that is not used at that point it would be fine.

Your argument would assert that I shouldn't want external HD storage or MRV since it isn't "its intended manner", at least not until they officially release it.

I would rather have high expectations and see good things I (or others) can think of implemented into the TivoHD interface. In fact, if they do not do that, they will die as a company. Any company that doesn't meet consumer demand and expectations will die.

There's a Tivo fanboy for sure. Of the 4 DVRs I have used, the tivo is the only one without a skip a day ahead button. It would be so easy to make this a great dvr, but the little things missing make it just average.

I don't know why TiVo even bothers to include a guide. It is very painful to use (for me).

The navigation shortcuts (that I'm aware of) are seriously lacking. Other DVRs give you shortcuts to jump ahead 12hrs, 24hrs, jump direct to channel, jump forward/back N days, page up/down, etc. TiVo just gives you page up/down and forward/back 3hrs and relegates any other shortcuts to the info screen. Other DVRs indicate in the guide shows that are being recorded. TiVo only does so after the show starts recording.

Having said that I've basically stopped using the guide altogether. I just use find by title to schedule my shows. After getting used to this method it works fine but it is so easy to make the guide more useful I'm disappointed they haven't done so. I think they wanted to abstract the "Show/Season Pass" concept so people never have to worry about the actual guide and just worry about recording shows, but they have taken it too far, as most people who didn't grow up with TiVo are guide-centric users where they like to view live TV and schedule recordings all from the guide.

I agree that those features are standard, and should be on the TivoHD!

I use the guide to "see what's on" a lot. Sometimes I will have a specific night in mind, such as when I hear an ad for an upcoming show. I will have to start training myself to search by title instead, though I still like looking through prime time at times.

I do like the way the "find show by name" works on the Tivo though. It will narrow your search as you type and that is better than my previous experience.

I agree the Tivo guide is very primitive in most respects compared to any other DVR I have used. BTW with Tivo grid guide you can jump directly to a channel - just type in the channel # without pressing select.

It has nothing to do with being a fanboy, or even liking TiVo. They made it the way it is because you're not supposed to go hunting through the guide like that, so there was no point in including it, in their view.

Besides, you can record anything you like from the guide very easily. You can even spam the page down button 20 or so times (using TiVo's guide, not the god awful grid) and have it jump a very long while out.

But agree, a +/- day button would be a welcome addition to the interface. The TWC DVR I have does that pretty well, and does come in handy.

While Tivo could certainly add this feature, I still ask - why?

To find shows, there are endless, far more effective ways to find shows on Tivo. Why would you want to primitively browse by time and channel? And if you did, you'd probably want to jump to something specific (like HBOHD Saturday Night, 8pm, to see the new movie being shown).

As for the Tivo Guide, I used to be a die-hard grid-guide person. A couple years ago (post-DirecTV), I finally made the switch to the Tivo guide, and I love it. If I'm going to browse the guide at all, it's usually for a channel (e.g. I want to see HBOHD movies for the next few days). List-form is much easier to navigate, and much quicker, than Grid-form.

In any case, all the functionality is there, and easy to use.

With the TiVo guide you can easily skip ahead a few days, but anything more than that it is more effective to search.
