And after last season's series of shark jumps, I made a vow not to watch this upcoming season, no matter what. But with Janeane in the mix, I may yet change my tune.

Exclusive: Janeane Garofalo on 24? No Joke!

No, Ashton Kutcher has not commandeered my keyboard, and no, this is not a really early April Fool's Day gag: Funny lady Janeane Garofalo is joining the cast of 24.

Although details of the casting are few and far between at this point, what I can tell you is this: 1) Come fall, she'll be a regular, 2) her character is a government agent who is part of the team investigating the crisis befalling Jack Bauer and Co. in the upcoming season, and 3) since the comedienne's persona often brings to mind Mary Lynn Rajskub's prickly Chloe, the potential for on-screen fireworks is greater than it has been during any of the show's previous bomb threats.

For that matter, there's a good chance that there will be a few explosions behind the scenes, too, since The Ben Stiller Show alumna is legendarily liberal, and 24's executive producer, Joel Surnow, is notoriously conservative. (Keep an eye out for future blind items. I kid. I kid!)

So, what do you think, folks? Is Garofalo the fresh blood that 24 needs to get itself pumping again? Or should she hit the set running because of that shark she's going to be asked to jump? Don't hold back.

Ugggh, not my favorite.

But despite her public persona she's not a half-bad actress. It wouldn't cause me to skip the show. There's lots of OTHER reasons I would skip the show. :)
Good! I think she's a great actress and her as a person is a very nice and refreshing too.
That's the third actress from the Larry Sander's Show. She'll be good.
Jump.
The.
Shark.
Casting.

She might be a good actress but her off screen rantings are too much for me to ignore.
Another bad sign for 24. Maybe they can get Michael Moore to direct. His 'movies' are just as realistic as 24 so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch.
Maybe it's just me, but I've always found her attractive.

As far as casting for any particular show, they could hire Saddam Husein's reanimated corpse and I wouldn't care as long as they have good and believable storylines.

So you've never watched the show, then. If "believable storylines" is a criteria for you to watch.
Just why? I know 24 had an off year last season but why bring in someone that can polarize your audience? It's the same with Rosie O'Donnell and FNL. People either love them or hate them. I avoid any programming with either of these women and I don't know if I could sit there for an hour every week and look at their characters without seeing them as who they really are as opposed to who their character is. Bad move in my opinion.

Her off screen rantings is what makes her my hero.

You seem to have missed 24 actually jumping the shark last season, what with it sucking and all. I think that's a little more damaging than hiring an actress who doesn't conform to your personal political views.
Oooo, neat. Move over Rosie, we found another polarizing figure to discuss!

I'm getting the popcorn ready! :D
I see that casting Garofalo has accomplished its goal...
Well, casting Garofalo certainly isn't going to make me want to continue watching 24. She's easily the most shrill and annoying actress out there.

I meant in general, not 24 specific.

Janeane Garafalo isn't playing Janeane Garafalo on 24. She's playing a character. That's why I don't understand the brouhaha. As much as I despise her, if Ann Coulter had acting skills and was cast on 24, I'd still watch.

When she keeps her mouth shut. Decent actress but her politics make me a bit nuts.

Says the Rosie fan?! :D

Not just you. :)
I didn't even finish last season, and I'm not sure this will make me want to watch next season any more or less. I've liked Janeane Garofalo in other parts, so it's not a big problem, but last season sucked so bad...

The wife will probably keeping watching it, so that means I will be too.
You guys are way to sensitive.

I think Tom Cruise is a fruit but I enjoy his movies and don't let it get in the way. Who gives a rip what they say outside of the show as long as they do a good job while in character.
