I vote for 'a bunch of bull'.
Call them back and tell them you need a couple of cablecards for your 'cablecard enabled' HD televisions, and see if they give you the same line.b16driven said:Just bought myself a nice 50" HDTV. I'm dying for another Tivo. This SA 8300 DVR is driving me insane.
I have Knology in St. Petersburg, FL. I called them up to ask if they could hook me up with a couple of CableCards for the TivoHD that I plan to buy in the next couple of days, if everything turns out OK.
The person on the line told me that they had not rolled out HD service through CableCards. They told me that I could get HD service through their STB, or "SD CableCards", but not "HD CableCards" Is there even such a thing? I was under the assumption that DTV broadcasts are broadcast in both and that there is no designaiton for HD or SD CableCards.
Can someone set me straight? I did call them on a Saturday, so I'm sure I didn't reach the shining stars of the cable company (ha!), and I plan to call back tomorrow.
Call TiVo. I understand that TiVo will get on a 3way call with you and your cable company and get it worked out. In other words, your cable company needs to be reminded of the FCC ruling and the integration ban that went into effect July 1st.b16driven said:Hah!
I'm on the phone with them right now, they are trying to tell me that they haven't rolled out CableCards, they tole me something else yesterday.
Draft a letter and/or email, to the FCC asking if your provider is exempt. Indicate in your letter that you are copying your provider. Send a copy to Knology. One way or the other, you will get an answer. The FCC will let you know, or Knology will either ignore you, send you something in writing saying they are exempt, or they will provide you the cablecards.b16driven said:I think that that's what they told me. I checked a list of cable companies that were exempt, however, and it appeared that the FCC had denied Knology's request for an extension.
Glad to hear you have a resolution. What amazing timing you have!! Just after they tested their system. Wow. Just amazing.b16driven said:After three calls to the local Knology office (the first two times I called, I got transferred to the main "idiot line" immediately upon requesting help. the thir time, I got through to a woman named Ini, who was very helpful, although I obviously knew more about it than she (she had never heard of cablecards). I explained to her what I was trying to do, explained that I had been given the runaround about a dozen times, and she took down my information and had the manager call me back.
He actually called me back within about 30 minutes, and explained that they had just finished testing the cablecard system last week, and that basically, no one in the company knew that they had the service in Pinellas county, FL. Don't they have email?
So bottom line is that after about a dozen calls, they are coming tomorrow evening to deliver and configure the cablecards. I stopped by the local BB and picked up a THD at lunch today.
If anyone else from Pinellas has similar problems, I have a direct number for the manager that helped me. I forgot his name.
Thanks again to everyone! I am now free of that nasty 8300! (tomorrow)
Youch! How did you get those?jrm01 said:If you would like to shake some trees, try e-mailing the CFO at [email protected]

My software version is at 8.1.7c2-01-2-652. Is that the latest?20TIL6 said:Glad to hear you have a resolution. What amazing timing you have!! Just after they tested their system. Wow. Just amazing.
Now when you get home, get the HD hooked up and force it to make service calls, hopefully you will connect it to your home network and broadband. It's just faster that way. Anyway, the latest software version is "c1", or something like that,
Then enjoy.
