If you are capable of replacing the drive yourself, do it now, before your current drive dies completely, and you may be able to save your recorded programs.
My first drive started to die and I copied it to a new drive using MFSTOOLS. The new drive was able to boot far enough to do a green-screen recovery (which succeeded). After that, most of the old programs were still viewable.
