I'm still torn on if I want to get a TivoHD. I've decided to wait till Christmas to decide in hopes that I can get a good deal (maybe in the $199 area) and any quirks hopefully worked out by then.

Am I just postponing the certain or is it worthwhile to wait till then.

For the record I understand the whole wait for technology debate. As in I could wait till next year and it may be $50. But this is strictly buying now vs. Christmas season rush.

I know this might be a wait, but I will buy in once the Tivo HD is sub $200. I just can't afford more. No matter how much I love Tivo.

I really doubt it will drop anytime soon.

They released it as a lower cost alternative to the high priced Series3 HD TiVo.

They aren't going to chop another $100 off.

Stanley, it looks like it's already happening to some extent (although not $100) at Amazon and Circuit City. I wouldn't be surprised to see it at $200 either on sale or after rebate before the holiday season.

If you have an existing TiVo in your house with a qualifying subscription (existing unit lifetime, etc.), you can also add a new TiVO HD box to your household and qualify for the $6.95 a month multi-unit discount rate (providing you agree to a 3yr commitment...different from the upfront $299 prepay; there is a $200 penalty if you stop subscription, unless you're moving it over to another box...usually).

When I logged into my account and activated my new TIVo HD, I was presented with this option, and I went with this plan. As long as someone is providing guide data to my box, I'm going to use my TiVo's.

I'm waiting for a lifetime sub xfer offer*. If that doesn't happen, then I'm going to at least wait until the consumer beta testing is over.

When I established service on my TiVo HD last week, I asked them about this....at this current time...if you buy a premium S3 (not the TiVo HD model) via any retail channel (other than TiVo.com), TiVo Customer service was still honoring to do this (if asked).

Given the $200-$300 retail price difference already in place, I didn't see the logic in paying $400-$500 more than the TiVO HD, just to get lifetime service on an S3.when it would take close to 5 years in payments to break even on the difference. I expect to be utilzing probably a new generation box by then and using my existing TiVO HD as a extra room box or give to someone as a gift by then.

Plus, honestly, I don't like putting things like subscriptions on credit...I bought now rather than saving a couple of more months and wait....I was just too anxious once the base price point dropped on the new box...plus who knows how long they will honor it.

- Comcast-Tivo has been released and does not compare favorably to Tivo-HD
- Tivo-HD gets enabled for 'PC -> Tivo' Transfers (aka Tivo2GoBack)
- Either MSD or Lifetime Transfer allowed from my S2.

AFAIK, they've only ever charged that rate. I don't think they've actually charged the listed $399 for three years. If they have, it was only for a very short time.

I guess I never paid attention to it. I just noticed it said "for a limited time" so I ass/u/med it actually was. I should've known.

I've said it before (in a nutshell), when it becomes valuable to me.
Right now, I live in rather rural Canada, with satellite, so the current Series 3 platform is useless to me, beyond what a Series 2 can do with analog antenna channels.

Digital OTA won't reach me until 2010 or later, and I likely won't be bombarded with a bunch of digital stations when it does.

If/when I move to where cable is, cablecards aren't even here, and cable providers here tend to encrypt more than US ones do.

I have an older Series 2 with Lifetime, a newer Series 2 with the MSD, and a Comcast/Motorola DVR for HD recording. I would LOVE to ditch the Comcast DVR (the remote lag is so irritating, the UI is kludgey (but it does work...), and it's got WAAAAY too little storage for us).

We are heavy users of MRV, so that's a must, and the main beef with the Comcast is the size of the disc. I know the TiVo HD has a little more, but not enough at this point to shell out the $$. Right now, TTG is a 'nice to have' but not critical for us.

So, I'll put it on my Christmas list, assuming we have MRV and external storage support by then.

I'm ready to buy a TiVo HD right now - this Comcast 3416 is a piece of junk, forgets all my recorded programs, freezes up, very laggy response to the remote, etc.

Where can I find reports from owners who have Comcast and how their experiences with the Tivo HD have been? I don't care about ON DEMAND or any other 2-way service and I don't mind paying Comcast a few bucks to install the cableCARDs or the monthly fee if there is any. I also don't mind paying the $299 3-year subscription - I have the monthly now for my Series 2 and love it.

What's the scoop on how people are liking the TiVo HD? I really want my reliability, ease of UI, and broadband scheduling back.

Is there any reason I shouldn't get the TiVo HD now with Comcast and return this 3416 DVR?

Any comments greatly appreciated!!!

Hmmm....
My DIRECTV HR20 DVR has eSata. I've got a 500 Gig eSata Drive hooked up to it now. I wonder what TiVo is wating for ?
