I have the DWL-G122 adapter and I'm trying to hook it up because whenever we try and update through the phone line it will have call failure after 30 minutes. The current software is 5.3 on a tivo with 540 service number. We can't update to 7.2 because of the phone line - so we of course buy the adapter. Now we can't use the adapter - possibly because we need 7.2? Ugh.

Any thoughts at all?

It sounds like the call is trying to download the software update. If you force the call over and over it should be able to pick up where it left off and complete the download.

You do need at least software version 7.1 to use a DWL-G122. Hey, while you are checking, make sure that DWL-G122 is a version A2, subsequent versions B1 and later won't work even with software 7.2.1 on your TiVo.

The call just wont go through. We've spent 8-10 hours dialing. Meaning 30-40 calls and it just wont happen. We can't use wireless because we need the new software and we can't get the new software until the call goes through (which it wont). What a vicious cycle.

The Linksys USB 100M and 200M v.1 will work in the 5.x version of Tivo software. They are wired adapters, however. You can buy the proper USB 200M directly from Tivo. The USB 100M is available retail for $20-$30.

After unsuccessfully spending three days now trying to get a wireless (three different models tried now) adapter working I have come to think the Unthinkable:

If TIVO had been owned by Microsoft, ANY of the adapters I bought would have worked the first time...

This is too cumbersome and frustrating......

Did you try the TiVo Wireless Adapter? According to what I read on TiVo's web-site, that seemed like the only choice. Oh sure, there are two other G adapters that could work with a TiVo, but the chances of me heading down to Fry's and picking up the exact model, with the exact firmware version, with the correct serial number prefix seemed pretty low to me.

In other words, the TiVo adapter is the only supported adapter for Wireless G. You should give it a try.

I'm having the same problem. I just bought a new backup Tivo for another romo in the house. Again, brand new. I got it at Best Buy. Wouldn't you think that Best Buy would also carry an adapter for the Tivo I just bought? Nopo. Why does Tivo make things so damned incompatible with anyone elses product? I'm thinking about the Sonic MyDVD fiasco where I can't burn .tivo files. I don't want to have to be a computer expert to work my Tivo. I just want to plug & play, and everything works fine. Why aren't there wireless adapters built into the new units anyway?

I had to get that off my chest.
