iPad to Tivo Elite?

1596 Views 13 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Dan203
I have about 25 movies on my iPad 2. Would like to transfer them directly from the iPad is possible?

How can I transfer them to the Tivo Elite? My other computer is a laptop running Windows 7. I used my computer at work running Windows 7 and converting using DVDFab over to the iPad format H264.

Thanks and searched and could not find any real good suggestions.

So, you have these movies on your home PC as well? Serve them to the TiVo from the PC with pytivo. It takes a bit to set up, but is well worth it.

I don't believe you can send these from the ipad to the tivo directly.

That's the problem. Not on the home computer but on the office computer which is not anywhere near my Tivo's at home. Only on the iPad.

As written, I took this to mean you have two computers running W7, one is a laptop and one is at work. Are you saying this is one machine, a laptop at work? Why not take that home and transfer to the TiVo?

If these are two separate machines, you can either transfer the movies from the ipad to the home PC (which I know would give me a headache with syncing itunes to a separate computer), or get the movies onto a thumb drive and transfer that way.
2 separate PC's and 50 GB of movies.
If it were me? I'd drop them on a portable HDD and transfer them home, problem solved, the ipad is just a red herring making things more complicated since the ipad is built around being a consumption device, not a data source.

In fact I've done just this with my sister, she and I share movies via out itunes accounts and we have a 120GB drive to do the transfers.
I have no problem converting the movies to H264 and downloading them on the iPad.

I want to get them on my Tivo.

Are you saying that I download the movies on an external HD and then once they get on the home PC, I use pytivo to transfer them to the Tivo?

With that much data, that is exactly what I would do. Once you complete the big push, which you would only have to do once, you could handle the rest on thumb drives or just do another push in the future.
There is no way to transfer them directly from the iPad without a PC involved. However if you connect the iPad to a PC then you can use pyTiVo to push the MP4 files directly from the iPad to the TiVo.

Ok......I'll try.

Thanks.
After thinking this solution out............it seems to be a lot of trouble just to watch on Tivo.

I think I will continue to use the 15 ft. HDMI cable to iPad converter and watch the movies on the TV directly from the iPad. Simple and already set up in NJ and FL.

Thanks.
You can always buy an Apple TV for $99 and use Air Play to stream from your iPad to your TV via the ATV.
$99 investment to watch video's from the iPad to my TV. Sounds very reasonable.

One question: In my home in FL, I have no internet installed and only use my iPad (3G) as the only computer. I had to buy a plug in adapter (forgot the name) to use the Air Play to connect to the HP wireless printer.

Would the Apple TV work the same way and connect using this adapter?

If so, I would spend the $198.00 to get rid of the wires.

Just FYI. Internet in SW FL is very expensive, ie $49.95 per month.
$49.95 per month.
That's pretty standard for broadband around here. They have a few cheaper plans, but they're slow.
