iPad/Phone App and Wireless N Bridge

I am having trouble getting the iPad/Phone app to work with my TiVo Premiere, and I think it may be due to my wireless N bridge. First off, let me detail my recent home setup history:

Prior to yesterday:
Living Room: TiVo HD with TiVo-brand wireless N bridge connecting to D-Link DAP-1522 Wireless N Bridge/Access Point (cannot link to Newegg spec listing, as I do not have enough posts), which is in turn connected by Cat-5 into Verizon FiOS wireless b/g router.

As of yesterday:
Living Room: TiVo Premiere with TiVo-brand wireless N bridge connecting to D-Link DAP-1522 Wireless N Bridge/Access Point, which is in turn connected by Cat-5 into Verizon FiOS wireless b/g router.
Computer Room: TiVo HD with TiVo-brand wireless b/g receiver connecting to Verizon FiOS wireless b/g router.

I was never able to get the iPad/Phone app to detect the TiVo HD and assumed part of the issue was simply that the HD couldn't handle the connection and I needed a Premiere. Partly for this reason, I wanted a TiVo Premiere, as I really like the iPhone/Pad app interface with the system (played with it at a friend's house). For Xmas, I got a TiVo Premiere, and put it in the same spot on the main TV as the old TiVo HD. The TiVo HD got shuffled off to the computer room, which used to have an old TiVo 2 which I haven't used in ages due to the lack of HD support.

I have checked all the standard setting for getting the iPad/Phone apps to work with the Premiere. Network remote is enabled, downloading is enabled in the MyTiVo preferences, the Premiere's OS is updated to the latest version, and the Premiere, router, and bridge have all been rebooted. Despite all this, the Premiere still isn't detected by the iPad/Phone app. However, the TiVo HD is now showing up properly on the network and I can use the iPad app to control it via remote. The only thing that I changed about the HD setup was that it moved from the wireless N bridge connection to the standard wireless b/g connection. That indicates to me that something about my wireless N connection is causing the problem.

The D-Link DAP-1522 is operating in Access Point mode as, as far as I am aware, that is how it has to be setup to receive a signal from the TiVo wireless N bridge. Does anyone have any ideas about what exactly is causing the conflict, and any suggestions about what I can do to fix it?

Many thanks for any help provided.

Do you have similar issues with TiVo Desktop? Can you run cable to the Premiere or put the Premiere in the computer room to confirm it works when wired?

Check on new firmware for your Access Point and Bridge. I had a similar problem that updating the firmware fixed.

Are you connecting the IPad/Phone wirelessly to your router or to your access point? Try the other way.

The Premiere is not currently hooked up to TiVo Desktop, however the old HD had no difficulties streaming from my media server via pyTiVo over the wireless N network. My pyTiVo folder did not immediately show up on the Premiere yesterday when I was working on it, but I was too focused on the iPad issue and the usual new hardware software/schedule updates to look into it.

The former is not possible, though I suppose the latter is if necessary. The Premiere has no difficulties connecting to the network via the wireless N (nor did the HD in its spot before), so I doubt that's the problem. Will try this if all other tests fail though.

A good suggestion, I will do that for the access point. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe the TiVO wireless N adapter is capable of receiving a firmware update.

That's good suggestion, I will try that. I'm connecting to the router, not the access point. Nothing in the house currently uses the access point except the Premiere. If it's some kind of subnet or divided network issue, that would probably diagnose it.

I fixed the problem. The issue was that the ipad/phone were connecting to the B/G network on the main router, while the tivo was connecting to the separate N network on the access point. Once I made changes so that the ipad/phones could connect to the N network, the Premiere showed up instantly and worked perfectly.

Unfortunately, this means it's a pain in the butt to use the app to control both my tivos, as my old HD is on the wireless B/G network. I'd have to change wifi networks with the ipad/phone to control it. That said, I think 98% of my ipad/phone app usage will be with the Premiere, so I suppose it's not that big of a loss.

ps hopefully shows in your area aren't copyright-protected by your cable company. Cox just lifted most of their copyright protections so pretty much any show we record can transfer to the ipad....
