Does anyone know if the Samsung S4040 and the RCA DVR40 use the same instantcake image?

I'm having problems with my upgraded RCA and want to move the drive to the Samsung. Obviously, I don't want to pay for another image if I don't have to.

Thanks

The basic answer to your question is no they are not the same. I do not know whether or not they will work. Here is a summary of the various manufacturers and models. The choice and risk are yours. Remember there are a lot of unexplained problems being reported in these forums.

These units use different versions of the software and the software from one unit should not be put on the other unit. You definitely don't need InstantCake (or a new replacement drive) to get your Samsung upgrade. You can use MFStools or WinMFS to backup the original drive from the Samsung and then restore that to a newer larger drive.

But please don't use software designated for a specific unit on any other unit. Its been discussed in the Underground for many years; its is not a good idea, even if the software appears to work.

PS Depending upon the problems you are having with the RCA, it may be the drive - so you should test that thoroughly, or you may find that your problems migrate to the Samsung.
