Carelessness never pays off. I was swapping my tivo series 2 with my Tivo premiere. The cord of course falls to the floor and mixes in with two other power cords I had down there. Now I'm looking at 3 power cords (one random one that I have no clue what it goes to) and don't know which is for my tivo premiere. I have a refurbished tivo premiere, so I they are all the same cord.

Could someone look at their tivo premiere power cord for a match from below? It would be greatly appreciated, would love to watch some tv.

Cord 1) On the power connector it says CS E231927 125V 7A, on the wire itself it says awin SPT-2 (UL) E228636 VW-1 105c 300V in white lettering

Cord 2) On the power connector it says E321035 SP-013 10A 125V , on the wire itself HOWPOWER IULI/CIULI S326666 SPT-2 2/C 13AWG10.324MM21 300V 105c VW-1 FUND RESOURCES ELECTRIC INDUSTRY CO. LTD. SHANGHANG-LF- in black lettering

Cord 3) The male part of the connector looks longer on this one and I'm suspecting it's for my series 2. On the power connector it says E124162 J SP-013, on the wire itself it says (UL)/C(UL) E114235-J SPT-2 2/C 18AWG(0.824MM) 300V 105c VW-1 CHAU'S in black lettering.

Thank you for any help.

You do know it doesn't matter right?
Any one that fits the back of the unit will be fine, and all 3 could easily have come from a Tivo since they buy in bulk from many vendors.

Early model Tivos came with a power cord that was keyed to only insert in one direction (one side was square shape and the other round). Later models use a non-keyed cord. That's the only difference I've found and I've owned S1, S2, S3HD, and Premiere units.
I have owned Series 1 and 2 only, and have found they all use the same polarized figure-8 connector, and will work with a non-polarized figure-8 cord.

I have a half dozen or more of the non-polarized figure-8 cords, and they work on nearly any two pin appliance. Same for the bunch of PC power cords, except I have 20 or more. The only oddball cord is the "mouse ears" grounded cord one monitor has.

Talk about being lazy to look at the back of the tivo unit to see which cord fits in. Are people really that lazy?

Not really. The non-polarized cords for the later models will fit the polarized socket on the older models but you don't really want to do that.

I went under the assumption that all cords were NON-polarized since the OP could not tell them apart, and none were mentioned as being PHYSICALLY different in the post as far as connector shape, only in connector length.

Honestly. You have to asume the OP believed the wrong plug might harm his device. He probably did not know you could use anything that fit. It took more work to make the post and wait for an answer then merely trying any cable. give him a break

Never assume too much knowledge - especially given the way he stated the question. I always figure it's best to provide too much information instead of not enough.

darn that optimistic streak! we don't want to talk about trimming the polarized plugs to make them non-polarized yet do we? there might be head exploding..
Thanks for the replies. I guess I should have tried the plug before just posting. They all looked the same at first glance. The one is made for the series 2 with a different shape. The other two are similar but one fits in better so I'm going to use that one. Btw what's an OP? Thanks again for the replies.

OP = Original Poster...
Newbradamus, I'm glad you found the answer to your question. Here's a tip I use for keeping all my cables straight - use some paper tape (similar to regular masking tape only it's the kind that's easy to peel off and doesn't leave a sticky residue on things) and a Sharpie marker to label each cable near the plug. For example, labels might be Tivo-2, Tivo HD, Video-1, DVD, TV out, or whatever. I have a zillion cables and it helps when you need to quickly find a cable in the dark. Also, I like to use different colored HDMI and Cat-5 cables for different devices.

They are polarized for safety reasons. You can do whatever you want to in the privacy of your own home but, being a retired engineer, I go with safety first when I provide advice.

FWIW I generally agree, I wasn't suggesting using non-polarized plugs on polarized devices, but to trim the cord so a polarized plug goes in to a non-polarized device. (you can rest easy..)

On Series 1, 2, and 3 TiVos the cord is polarized. The plug has a wider and a narrower blade.

The other end, visualise a figure 8 with the bottom squished flat, as though you made one from clay and slammed it down on the table.

These are interchangeable among the S1,2, and 3 TiVos.

The same configuration is used on some satellite receivers and cable modems.

If you're plugging one end into a TiVo, the other end should be plugged into an Uninterruptable Power Supply.

You really should have both ends of all cables labeled.

The only picture of the back of a Premiere I could find that was sufficiently detailed to make out anything about the AC jack was a line drawing of the back of an Elite on the TiVo site, and it appears to be polarized, but with the flat part towards the middle, rather than either outside edge.

I've never seen one like that before and suspect replacement cords will be very difficult to come by except as expensive TiVo specific items.

The Premiere uses a standard, non-polarized, figure-8 plug. Can't speak for the Elite.
The Elite uses the same cord as a regular Premiere. When I swapped out my Premiere for the Elite, I left the power cord in place. When I set up the Premiere in the bedroom, I used the power cord that came with the Elite.
there's alotta posts here about mixed up cords..if it fits into the back of your TiVo plug it in and be done with it.
LOL!!! I can understand the concern though. The Tivos could have had different power requirements and been harmed by the wrong plug.
