There are three things I particularly like about DN:

1) 30 second skip/6 second rewind. I think TIVO offers that, but please confirm.

2) Ability to select a recorded program from DVR (on my Hopper or a Joey), watch a portion of it, pause it and move to a different room and pick up where I left off on my Hopper or another Joey (although this feature has recently become problematic on DN, along with a creep of other problems.)

3) From anywhere that I have internet (via LTE or WiFi) , I can watch a program on my home DVR (or a live Dish program) using Dish Anywhere (I think Sling may be the underlying technology), although the DA app is very buggy, particularly the same 30 second skip/6 second rewind as mentioned in #1 above.

So my question is how much of the above can TIVO do?

Also I just read something about the TIVO Stream 4k which may point to a competitive (i.e., contains the above 3 features I value), and wonder whether the Stream (or another option) could give me the same 3 features. Thanks.

Tivo can do all 3, but it doesn't work with Dish Network. Just cable or antenna. For #3, Tivo can do this with the Android and iOS apps, not televisions outside the home.

The Stream 4K has some kind of agreement with Sling TV, but is otherwise not a DVR. Any skip/rewind and portability functions it has will be up to the apps individually.

Assuming you want "cable" channels and not just local networks, you might consider YouTube TV. The skip forward/back times are 15/15, so not the same as Dish, but, other than that, it has all of the features you are requesting:

Now realize that I should have explained that the recorded shows that i want to watch away from home are 90% CNBC, so I want to cancel the Dish TV subscription and get a new subscription elsewhere to replace it. But I would still record the shows as i do now. does that complicate this?

Tivo needs a cable TV subscription to function. Can you get cable in your area?

A streaming service like Youtube TV would also work as others have pointed out and will cost far less than Tivo plus a cable TV subscription.

Watching your Tivo recordings away from home can be challenging. It only works on a phone or a computer, not a streaming device like Roku, Fire Stick or Apple TV that you might travel with. Youtube TV, on the other hand does work on phones, computers and most streaming devices.

Personally, I think Youtube TV would be the better option for you.
