I got the WD 10000CSR Eco-Friendly SATA Hard drive at Best Buy today for $259.99 + Tax. I just installed it into the TiVo HD (652160), its the best drive I have ever seen for a DVR.

1) No noise that I can hear, even close to the TiVo (I did not run any acoustic software)

2) Drive runs cool to the touch, put the cover on and after an hour the SI temp was 38C, with the standard drive it was 48C !! what a drop in temp.

3) HD record time is 144 hours; basic record time is 1338 hours. (super size turned on)

If you can find any of these drives at Best Buy this week get one. I would call first as only one store in CT had any (3) and i took them all. I will be putting the other two in friends TiVo-HD.

Of course i can't tell if there is any long term problems but for now its great !!!

With AAM changed to quiet, it's the quietest drive I have heard. I can still hear it 3 feet away, but it's very faint.
Hey lessd,

Which CT store did you pillage? They had 3 at the Norwalk, CT store and I scooped up one yesterday. They weren't on the normal shelves, but they were stacked way up on top of the tall shelves and someone had to climb up and bring one down.
Just upgraded to the same WD 1TB drive from BestBuy. It was a little noisy on seeks compared to the factory WD 160gb drive. Used Hitachi's feature tool (ftools cd) to enable AAM at 128. Just as quiet as the factory drive now.

I also checked AAM on the factory drive. It is set at 128.

128 is the quietest seek option.

Newington CT is where I got my three drives, the West Hartford BB said that was the only store that had any, but maybe it was just within the area i was.

I got mine in Norwalk as well. There were only two left on that top shelf where you need the stairs to get to it, and I took them both!
