I'm curious to know people's opinions about the quality of HR10-250 up converting abilities from 480i to 1080i or 720p?

Would I be better off buying an inexpensive (<$500) dedicated video up converter box?

Note that I only have a HD CRT TV.

Thank you!

To really use an external video up converter the HR10-250 would have to have native path through. Since it does not have this feature you will have to guess what the native resolution of the signal is and set the HR10-250 to this mode. Also DirecTV broadcasts non-standard resolutions like 1440x1080 or 1280x1080 which the DirecTiVo must convert to a stand format.

I was more speaking to up converting SD (720x480i) video to 1080i or even 1080p.
