HR10-250 won't work with new HD channels??

Hello,

I am looking for a new high-def Tivo. Problem is that I have Directv and now they are coming out with all these new HD channels.

I was told that the HR10-250 Tivo will not work with the new channels coming out. That I have to buy a HR20-700.

Is this true? I don't want to pay money for the 250 if it isn't going to work with the new HD channels. That is why I was thinking about buying it in the first place! I just love the tivo interface, and don't want to lose that.

Please let me know if anyone has heard anything.

Go to the next forum down that is specifically for the HR10-250. We've been talking about this issue for over a year now.

We have heard for some time now that the HR10-250 won't be able to receive any MPEG4 channels.

Right now there are two threads asking almost exactly the same question so I guess we should reply in both threads. Here is the answer that we found...

Check out this thread: HR10-250 and MPEG4; Upgrade Offer

So many of us kept our TiVos. In your case, keep your TiVo for MPEG2 HD as long as you can but always for OTA and SD. Get a new receiver for $19 for HD (also SD or OTA) and $120 in programming credits. If you were going to stay with DIRECTV anyway, that covers the cost of the $4.99 mirror/lease fee for 24 months as well.

You can have the best of both worlds. Free is good.

The downside to using both is they are nothing alike at all. Different remotes, interfaces, etc. You will never stop cussing at the HR20 for being different until you cut the strings and admit you can live without alcohol. Oh wait, I mean without Tivo.

I don't get this viewpoint. Why does everything have to be exactly the same. I have two TVs. Different brands. If you have more than one car in a family, they will be different unless you buy exactly the same year and model. My lamp in the living room has a different switch than the one in the bedroom.

So instead you reward Comcrap, AT&T, Verizon, Cox, Dish or someone else?

That's the part that I really don't understand. As much as I like TiVo, the DirecTV DVRs with TiVo had plenty of warts (see comments in discussions about HR10-250 version 6.3e as an example) and were never perfect either.

I reward DirecTV because they carry the programming that I want at the lowest price. That is what they are trying to do, and it works. Their DVRs aren't perfect, and they aren't TiVo's but they work. They offer features that the TiVo based products don't, programming that no one else can offer (Sunday Ticket anyone?) and a price that is hard to beat.

Why should I reward TiVo and/or the cable companies by signing up for a contract with them and then sitting here seriously p.o.'d a year from now when the cable company goes with Switched Digital Video and I can't get half of the programming that I'm paying for on my TiVo box? Why should I reward Comcast for taking forever to come out with a TiVo based DVR? Why reward Verizon for not offering cheaper prices for multiple DVRs for my home??

Its the never ending discussion. Not a single Company will ever have the equipment, the features, the price or whatever else every single person is looking for.....

Find whatever company, equipment programming etc you want, pay what you think is fair, and above all else enjoy watching you TV.
