Hello. I have an hr10-250 that I'm trying to use for live OTA viewing & have access to the recordings already onboard. It worked previously but after installing a new power supply got stuck on the gray 'powering up screen'.. I have connected the drive to an old PC and using parted magic/gparted and I see that the drive is 'unallocated'. Is there a way to rebuild the partition table and get the partitions back? If so, What tools etc? I've already copied the original drive to another using dd rescue as to not corrupt the original any further.. Did dd rescue copy anything worthwhile to try and fix? TIA

I have never worked on a DirecTV model, but in general TiVos use a proprietary file system that Windows and tools like gparted or partition magic see as unallocated. I would go to the Upgrade forum and get a copy of MFS Tools 3.2, which was written for TiVos. You might be able to at least get some info on the partition table if the drive isn't too corrupted.

However, Even after reading the command options on page 1, I'm not sure how to proceed. My original drive is sda so I tried running mfsinfo sda and I got an "i/o error reading volume header" & sda10: no such file or directory. Any ideas what to try or ideas what thread I should look for help in?

If you ran mfsinfo /dev/sda and got those errors it sounds like the drive is dead or badly corrupted.
Thank you for posting "mfsinfo /dev/sda".. I ran the command incorrectly. This is what was listed:

total 237698 (232gb) which matches my 250gb drive)
It also listed Zone 0-5 Maps. With lots of data listed..

That all looks good. Since you said the problem started when you replaced the power supply I would look for some other reason that it won't boot.
Looks good? Wow. So the replacement PSU might be bad too....? What's the process to 'upgrade' the drive? Will I be able to freely access previously recorded programs if I upgrade? There are a couple of recordings from regular network TV (but not OTA) on there I would like to access without using my hauppauge video capture device.. Thanks.

Not sure about upgrading the drive, but why bother if you're just using it as an OTA tuner and to play existing recordings?
I use "shutdown -h now" to kill MFS Tools, but it doesn't really matter with Linux and the power switch works just as well.

"Access" = extract the unencrypted HD files.. Guess I'll go read 87 pages of the upgrade thread..
Thanks for the shutdown command. I'm used to umount'ing and such while using gparted live to copy DTV drives. They need graceful shutdowns to keep from having superblock errors.
