Hr10-250 to dvd? should i wait

I just bought a new sony sxrd grand and is it ever beautiful..question I have the tivo hr10-250 and would love to save some of the vids. form what i have seen on the post best option is to wait for blueray or hd dvd recorder? I dont wnat to lose the quality...

I have the same combination. It is indeed beautiful.

DVD is lower quality than HD, but it can be very good. If you really want to save the full signal on a shiny disc, then yes, waiting for BluRay or HD-DVD is really the only choice.

If you don't mind saving them to a dull brown disk (as in hard drive), there is another option. If you modify the software of your HR10 to enable networking and disable encryption, you can copy recordings to a PC. This forum doesn't discuss such things in detail but there is another that does. Do a web search for "deals freebies DirecTiVo hacking" and start reading.

With the caveat that even after disabling encryption the existing recordings would still be encrypted. All future recordings would be usable if copied to a PC.
That problem can be dealt with easily enough.
No - I'm unaware of any way in which it is illegal, since the copyright holder did not apply the protection.
