Hey guys, my HR10 is started to get sluggish like alot of others around here and currently debating on getting the HR20. My question is if I disconnect my HR10 from D* will it still function as an OTA DVR? Or will I have to keep paying the $5 monthly to keep it working? I own it and I've read where alot of people are getting to keep their units even after upgrading.

No. If it does not get the DVR authorization from the satellite, it will lose all DVR functions. It will serve as an OTA tuner with 30-minute buffer.

Hmmm, that's a great idea! I'd be able to finally record all of my wife's stupid CSI's + all of my shows too on the same night. :up: It'd be nice to be able to record 4 HD programs at once.

I remember you used to be able to just pay $4.99 for a monthly if you wanted to just have Pay per View. Is there a package like that now that I can get? All I want is to record local HDTV channels OTA...

If you want service with D*, you'll need to subscribe to at least a base package, such as the family package ($29.99) or above.
