I need some help on hooking up a HR10-250 DVR to my system. I just had a H20 HD receiver installed so I could receive HD on my local channels through the Directv SAT DISH. The installers changed my 3 lnb dish to a 5 lnb dish (they said this was required) The installers then said that they had to run the signal to the HD20 in order to receive the HD Local signal. They told me there was no way to "splice" or use my HR10-250 to record / pause programs. When I spoke to Directv before ordering the H20 the tech said I could "splice" the DVR into the system so I could record. Was I lied to? Can it be set up so I can record?

"Splice"? No. Your dish has four outputs. Two of them should feed the HR10. But you cannot get the HD local channels on the HR10 no matter what.

Sure. The HR10 will record all of the SD DirecTV channels plus the HD channels that are on the MPEG2 satellites. It can also record digital TV channels from an OTA antenna. It just won't receive nor record the MPEG4 HD locals.

If you connect the HR10-250 to your new dish it will receive the same channels that it had before they replaced your dish. As Steve points out, you need one or two satellite cables from the new dish to your HR10-250 satellite input(s). If you want both tuners active you'll need two cables to the dish. Assuming your only other receiver is the H20, you should have three available outputs at the dish/multiswitch.
