I have a HR10-250 that I bought when they first came out.

A few weeks ago DSS started getting pixelated. Then some chanels droppped out. They would shop up on the guide but just a black screen and no sound.

No I have no picture or sound at all on DSS chanells and OTA HD is working fine.

I've called DirectTV and gone through all the resets, authorization checks, etc. Still no reception. It hasn't tried to record any of the season passes since 9/14.

Anyone have a clue?

Of interest is that the information screen shows that my DVR service is inactive and the unit is in "Boat Anchor" mode. I installed hacks using Ironman's guide and can still ping the unit.

What signal strengths are reported? What dish do you have? You need to check all cables from the dish to the receiver. If there is an external multiswitch being used, temporarily bypass it. The dish may have gone out of alignment.

Signal strength is 100%.

Also when I look at my System Information, it says "Account Closed" under DirectTV status. Called and they said my account is active.

When I try to tivo an OTA channel it says my DVR service is inaactive.

I plugged in the phone and it upgraded from 6.3a to 6.3e. I probably lost all my hacks.

Some folks have suggested that the powersupply could be the issue of this type of problem in other threads. I had this issue also and I tried installing a PS from another Tivo I had laying around and didn't work. Reinstalled the original one and it is now working just fine. Also there is a tip for the access card you could try, use an eraser on the Gold sensor part of the card to clean it off a bit. Will get it nice and shiny. I was having same types of issues as you and also a Insert Card message pop up on screen.

Just got off the phone with DSS. They tranferred me to a tech who went over the problem with me and then told me not to bother because the MPEG-2 stream was going to get turned off next month (!?).

He offered me a free new DirecTV HD DVR and 3 months of free DVR service for a 2 year extension. They are supposed to install it next week.

He must have meant next year. :D :rolleyes:

They need to keep the MPEG2 stream going for HD as this is what NFL Sunday Ticket is using among other channels etc.

That is stupid.

Yes, MPEG2 HD will be shut off sometime (probably in 2008) but MPEG2 SD will still work as will OTA.

Add an HR20 but don't ditch your HR10...

Hey! I found my receipt and it shows that I paid $99 for four years of service protection from Best Buy.

What does this mean. Will they replace or repair my unit or give me money back if they can't?

The issues you are having with "Account Closed" and "DVR Service Inactive" have nothing to do with your Home Setup or Equipment.

Have you had an unpaid bill recently? Or owed any Money to Directv because that is the only way you would get those messages.

If you did and have recently paid, then it can take a little time for those messages to adjust.

Also, if your Account was closed, then you would not be getting a 100% Signal strength, but 0%. So along the lines somewhere you have had what has been mentioned above.

Yes you most probally did lose all your Hacks and this could also explain your problems you are having. Did you upgrade to 6.3e before the problems started?

I had all these problems before the upgrade. I plugged in the phoneline and upgraded to try to fix the problems.

Checked with DTV again, my account is in good standing and always has been (auto-payment). The tech thinks something is wrong with how my box handles authorization.

Also I pulled the large hard drive and replaced it with the original, non-hacked, drive. Same problem exists.

I'm going to take the box back to best buy with my receipt and proof of extended warranty.

This is not true. I had issues in the recent weeks with my HR10 with some of the same symptoms. System info was also showing Account Closed 1 hour and the next it was fine again. No calls made, payments have been on time......... Other receivers in household working just fine.

It was definitely equipment.
