How will the lack of TTG and/or MRV affect your TiVo buying decision?

I purchased an S3 early on , was aware it didn't support TTG or MRV, and was/am okay with that. I also have two other S2s. The next TiVo unit I buy will have to support HD and MRV to replace one of my S2s. I won't be buying another TiVo that doesn't support MRV. I'm sure I'm not the only person out there who requires either TTG or MRV.

There is about a $100 difference between what I would pay for an S3 with and without MRV/TTG.

Real world example:

I would have bought a father's day S3 if MRV/TTG were enabled.
I'm buying one but keeping both of my S2's for the time being hoping for MRV soon.
It needs to downconvert to S2 resolution for MRV to be worth anything to me.

Enable TTG and MRV on the TiVoHD and I will pick 2 up in a snap to replace my 2 DT units.
That is #1. Second only to that is the cost/options of eSATA storage expansion.

Yup I too was going to order 2 this past Tuesday until I read the lack of features. Then decided to wait. If Tivo says they are working on these it could be a long time before they release. Going by their track record over the years past, its better to wait.
acually the only thing that will stop me from buying one is the lack of lifetime

Same here. If it wasn't for MRV I'd still be using TiVo Basic on my 3 SD-H400s.

Actually that's not correct. If it wasn't for MRV I'd still only have ONE SD-H400 and it would be using Basic.

For me as well. Brewman forgot the poll option for
"I am comfortable with the indiciations from TiVo that TTG/MRV will come by the end of the year"

I had thought about that, but decided that is equivalent to option 1: "I'll buy regardless of the presence of TTG/MRV." My reasoning is that since TiVo says it's at least in part a CableLab issue their "promises" to deliver one or the other feature are essentially meaningless marketing hype since its not entirely in their control. Basically, the purpose of this poll is to determine what people consider deal-breakers.
I'm waiting for a few reasons (lack of a job right now being the biggest), but as far as these features are concerned I'm waiting for ComeBack (Was an official name for this ever decided on, I'd like to be able to easily abbreviate like TTG?)
I really want to see the MRV option before I get on the HD wagon. I love my TIVOs and the option to move the show to where ever I want to watch.

Hopefully they at least get the MRV option active soon.

OK, I answered will buy regardless then.

Now as to what TiVo is doing with TTG/MRV from all I am reading on it.
Cable labs can only control what TiVo does with shows that come across the encrypted part of the digital stream from the cable card. So what TiVo says they are working on is to do MRV/TTG for all content that comes on unencrypted channels and anything recorded from an Antenna (OTA).

This means they are working on MRV/TTG that does NOT need cable labs approval or wait for them

You can get HD from OTA. This means they can deliver MRV/TTG for the bulk of the channels you record (unless you do a lot of showtime or other premium channel recording) Since they have MRV/TTG already written then I am pretty confident they can deliver something by the end of the year. Now that will come on the current S3 model first since it has the 8.3 code branch but TiVo has said it will come to the TiVo HD soon after that in what I assume would be a release that brings the TiVo HD to the 8.3 level and has bot models on the same code level.

Jim Denny from TiVo did say that the TTG/MRV would be for anything that did not have a broadcast flag on it. This could include things like showtime since they do not set a flag I have heard of yet. Not sure if he just mis-spoke what the plan is or not

Maybe because TiVo has NOT said that.

Denny did NOT say that either. Nor any of the other things you claim. You ought to show us what you are reading, because it isn't anything I've been able to find.

Not totally meaningless marketing hype, because there is some indication of actual activity in the comment(s)

I have an S3 and am in the market for 3 more hi-def TiVoes when MRV is here and Lifetime is $299. :D

then you are calling megazone in his TiVo Lovers TiVo HD review a liar, which i am sure you do not mean to do so would retract that statement

Also like the S3, network video transfers (TiVoToGo, TiVoToComeBack, and Multi-Room Viewing) are not yet enabled. I also talked to TiVo about this, and I was told that they’re planning to enable these by the end of the year. So, by the end of 2007 we should have both official eSATA and network video transfers if they can execute to plan.
There is a difference between planning and will. There is a difference between negotiating for and will.

I'm sure TiVo is working hard on working towards all this stuff.

There is half full and half empty.
You yourself posted that you were surprised by how soon the Tivo HD came out. To me this indicates that TiVo is on a new direction of delivering what needs delivering and clearly they need to deliver MRV/TTG on the S3. I am sure the CEO gets weekly reports on that progress and it is directly tied to his direct reports performance plan. So if TiVo states to someone they know will publicly report that TTG is coming by end of year then they do have a plan in place and it is the execution phase that is the only doubt. I choose to look at how TiVo has executed un 2006/2007 and I see them executing their plans.
