how to "turn on" the dual tuner??

Greetings,

My first TIVO box (series 2) started acting up, so I swapped out my TIVO box with a different series 2 box. All the hookups were identical, and the setup went smoothly.

My issue is that it seems to be only recognizing one tuner, as I can't get to the other tuner, and I can't record a digital and analog channel at the same time. When I go to the channel setup, I don't have the cbl/box check marks available. It's just the one.

I have triple checked my physical setup, which I'm using a coax and RCA cables for the TIVO input. Has anyone else been in this situation, or know what I can do to turn on the 2nd tuner?

Are you sure it is a dual tuner? Series 2 does not automatically equal dual tuners.
Lazlo,

It very well may not be. Is there a way to find out if it is?
If it looks like either of the two tivos shown on the bottom of this page it would be a single tuner Series2

UGGGH!! It's a single tuner! How dare my mom buy such a device 7 years ago!

Thank you for the help Lazlo :)
If you go to the System Information screen of the setup menu, look at the Tivo service number (TSN).

The dual tuner S2 has the TSN starting as TCD 649.....

Well, the single tuner Tivo was the only Tivo option at the time. The first dual tuner didn't come out until 5 years ago.
Series 2 dual tuner boxes are going for dirt cheap on ebay and sometimes free on craigslist. I got a free one last month, and a friend got a free one in January. I have a bunch of them in the basement collecting dust.
The easy way to determine a dual tuner is to look on the back. If it has Ethernet, it is a dual tuner. Setting a dual tuner for analog cable automatically sets it for dual tuner mode.

Dual tuner Series 2s were launched in April 2006 (the original Series 3 that September). Anything older will be single tuner, except for DirecTV TiVos.

Bit of a nit: the first Stand Alone Dual Tuner did not come out until around then. Dual Tuner DirecTiVos came out in 1999.

I can nit too.
Directv receivers with tivo software are not Tivos, they are directv receivers.
People have a hard time accepting that, but have no problem making the same distinction with the comcast motorola box running tivo software - not that those boxes ever made it beyond a small test market.
The original DirectTiVos were TiVos with dual DirecTV receivers, not DirectTV DVRs with TiVo s/w.

Like I said, some people have a hard time with it.

If it's a 240 series then you're in luck, one of the all time strongest Tivo units out there.

Unless you can point me to an independent, reliable source that confirms your statement, I will continue to believe as I do.
