How to Transfer Season Pass ???

6546 Views 11 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  kuyper
The Tivo help forums seem to indicate this can't be done. Maybe it can?

I have 2 series 2's, networked. One is single-tuner, wireless, the other dual-tuner, ethernet. For irrelevant reasons, I want to switch the locations of the two, and also the fairly elaborate seasons' passes. There's a PC running Tivo Desktop. If the passes can't be transferred, can they each be backed up somehow to the PC, and then restored to the other?

any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated. THANKS.

Not without "hacking" both boxes. It would be less work to simply copy down the SP info and reenter it.
Easiest way to setup a lot at once is to use the website to do it, if they are just season passes.
What does that mean, use the website? How does that work?

you said you had a regular series 2 tivo brand right?

go to tivo.com and login, then you can go to online scheduling and just search for a show, and there are options in there to setup season passes.

Just look and it's easy
One catch with either method is that you can only enter a season pass for a program if there's an episode in the TiVo's schedule for the next ~2 weeks (or, I guess, somewhere in the Now Playing List). Enter the new SPs before you delete the old ones.
an episode in the NPL will not be of any use if there are no upcoming eps in the guide

If there are no eps in the guide data from which to get an SP, setting it up as a wish list item can do the trick until there is.

I thought in the new "More options" menu on the Program screen there would always be a "Get a Season Pass" option even if there weren't more episodes upcoming. Maybe not.

You can make changes to the SP if you have one, but you can't set up an SP from the NPL even if there are episodes listed in the guide. You'd have to take the longer route through 'view upcoming episodes' to set up a season pass.
Sorry, but that's not what I'm seeing ...

I go to an episode of a currently airing season for which I don't have an SP, Select More Options, and I get an option for Get a Season Pass. This comes up for any program in the NPL for which I don't have a SP.

After playing around a bit I think this only comes up when there are upcoming episodes, though.. In that case I still see View Upcoming Showings (leads to an empty list) but not an option for a Season Pass.

This is a recently added feature. It comes in handy when there a program in Suggestions that you like and want to start a SP for.
That's odd. I looked at an episode of "grounded for life" that I recorded last week and there was no SP option even with more eps in the guide. So now I looked at an episode of "modern marvels" and it is there.

You're right.
You know, it amazes me that years later TiVo have still not built the ability to backup a season pass/wishlist (and all your thumbs-up/down preferences) to your TiVo Desktop (their "excuse" not to have that automagically stored in your accounts is "privacy") and therefore be able to restore to a new device is pretty l4m3

I'm on my 6th TiVo (counting 2 dead/misbehaving HDs that they had to replace) which means 5 recurrences of me having to handraulically transfer all that info.

Urgh....
