I've read scores of threads on this forum about transfering my old month-to-month service plan from my single-tuner S2 to a new dual-tuner S2. I want to confirm that I understand the process correctly:

1) I must purchase my dual-tuner S2 from a retail source (like this Tivo Community Store site). I cannot purchase directly from Tivo because I have to also purchase a service plan with any new box purchase. Am I correct?

2) When I get the new dual-tuner S2 box, I must logon to my account at Tivo's website and change the Tivo Service Number to the new dual-tuner S2's number. I do this at TiVo website > My Tivo > Change TiVo Service Number

3) I put my old S2 in the garbage can and live happily ever after with my new dual-tuner S2.

Do I understand the process clearly?

Thanks,

Jason

1. yes (NOTE - this is not a new activation - no rebate will apply with a transfer of service)

2. yes

3. Why junk it? Give it to someone who wants to try out Tivo

Looks like you have it down. But what I would do is not junk the TiVo. I would disconnect it from the network/phone before doing the transfer of service. There have been sporadic reports of some TiVos working fine as a manual recording unit after cancellation. Normally, a TiVo without a sub is a door stop.

Here is a question if I want a rebate, I have a DRT800 (Humax) at $12.95 a month no plan and a TivoHD at $6.95 for there years.
I woul buy Series 3 and do a new activation at $6.95 for three years, file the rebate then transer my Humax to the TivoHD and then sell sell/giveaway/throw away the Humax and I will still get the Rebate and still be paying what I'm paying now?

yes you would. But it would be better to do the 3 year prepay and only pay 8.61 a month on one and 6.95 on the other

What Zeo said.

You may find someone willing to give you some money for the Humax, as it's still possible to buy a lifetime sub from Tivo on those units, which is valuable to some folks.

Incorrect - I got lifetime on a ebay unit (that had been activated, it still had a previous owners setup (complete with a hard drive full of Oprah and Dr. Phil) by going to the website.

You're right that's what the policy says, but it looks like the website is just set up to look for the 595 TSN and offer lifetime as an option.
