How to manage the new Netflix update?

5900 Views 31 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  justen_m
Last week, Netflix updated their website, specifically the Watch Instantly queue. It is no longer listed in a sortable order...just a mashup of all your choices in a random, static order.

The problem with this update is you can no longer change the order of appearance of these movies on your Tivo. Before, when I would add a show/movie to my queue, if it was something for my kids I would move the item to the top of the queue for easy access. Now, unfortunately, it is just sorted in order of addition to the queue.

Has anyone figured out a work around?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but my Instant queue on the Netflix website looks the same as it always has. I can drag-and-drop items to re-sort them and that order is reflected in the Netflix app on my TiVos.

Hmm. Not for me. The regular queue (movies through the mail) is the same as it was, but the Instant Queue is completely different. What is the URL for your queue? Maybe you are bypassing the update somehow.

Here is an article about the change, with a screenshot.
I can still sort the instant queuing on Netflix Your Queue -> Instant. I can not sort the "Saved Instant" which are shows no longer available for streaming. Did all the shows in your queue get dropped? I see a lot of mine did.

I don't think any of my shows were dropped.

When I follow your link, the URL gets changed to http://movies.netflix.com/WiUserTitles
I wonder how many Tivo users use a game console instead for the Netflix function. It works much much better on my Nintendo Wii than on the Tivo. I realize that does not help people who only use the Tivo but it would help if Tivo would gravitate more towards an easly to use interface.

I don't see how. I login to my Netflix account, click on Your Queue, and then the Instant tab, which takes me to the same URL HomeUser posted.

Weird, I get a page-not-found when I try that link.

The only console I have is the Wii, so I prefer the (high def content) TiVo experience. If I had an SD TV, I may use the Wii for Netflix more than TiVo.

That IS interesting, because I don't even have an "Instant" tab anymore on my Queue. I log into my netflix account, go to Your Queue, and there is no tab there anymore.

They must not have rolled out this update to all the accounts. Count yourself lucky.
whitenack, Try adding a movie to your instant que. There were a lot removed somewhere between the end of May and now my Instant Queuing went from 60 down to 15. Most seem to be Sony movies and old NBC TV shows.

There is no Watch Instantly queue. There is a Watch Instantly tab and Instant Queue tab. Watch Instantly is not your queue, it just shows some titles that are available. I'm guessing that you are confused and just looking at the wrong tab/page.

The page you linked to about the change only states that the Watch Instantly page has changed and as I've already stated, that's not the same as your Instant Queue.

You are right. Whatever it is called, you know what I mean.

I am not so much against the redesign of the main page as much as I am the inability to sort my Instant Queue. What I want is to be able to move selections up or down the list so that it appears at the top or bottom of my Tivo list.

OK. The movie was added fine but I am still unable to sort my selections.

Could some of those missing movies of yours be Starz Play movies? Seems like a read something where there was a little problem with those.
No change here with the Queue view. Just logged in, selected Your Queue which displayed DVD and Instant queue tabs. Select the Instant queue tab and same abilities to sort are there either by renumbering or dragging.

Scott
whitenack, can you post a screenshot of what your Instant Queue looks like on the Netflix website?

Sure. I have attached 3 pics.

1 - First pic is what the main Netflix page looks like now...(Notice that the link to my DVD queue is gone -- I now have to click on "Browse DVDs" and then click on a "DVD Queue" link)

2 - Second pic is of my Instant Queue. My recently watched stuff is at the top, which I don't have a problem with, but below that is rows and rows of my Instant Queue in random order. I can hover over the selection which after a long pause reveals the show title, rating, quick info, and "watch" link. I can't change the order of these selections, and there doesn't seem to be any method to the sort order. They aren't sorted by date they were added to my queue, and obviously aren't sorted alphabetically or by genre. On my Tivo, these selections are shown in a list form like in the past, and all the titles that were there pre-Netflix update are in the order I had them sorted, but all the titles post-Netflix update are at the bottom in order of addition to the queue.

3 - The third pic is of my DVD Queue. Nothing is changed here except for the deletion of the Instant Queue link.

Again, I am not one of these people that are complaining about change just because I think any change is bad. Really, in my opinion, the rest of the redesign isn't that bad. I don't spend a lot of time on the Netflix website, so most of this doesn't affect me. What DOES affect me is the inability to sort the Instant Queue.

Wow, OK.

I tried in Firefox, IE, and Chrome on two different PCs and had the same result: Netflix looks the same as it ever has, with the Instant Queue and sorting ability.

I guess maybe they are rolling "new" interface slowly and you're one of the "lucky" ones. :(
I had the same issue as the OP about 2 weeks ago. I use my instant queue the exact same way by putting all the kid friendly shows at the top for easy access.

I noticed one day that everything was jumbled and mixed up. However, I was able to log in to the web site and re-sort everything. It's odd that his instant queue is not sortable.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I guess they are rolling the update out in sections. Hopefully that means there is a possibility they could roll it back to the old way if they hear enough complaints. By the looks of the Netflix blog, there are plenty of complaints.

Another aggrivation is that the Netflix main screen causes my IE to crash every time. I either have to view it in Chrome or bypass the main page in IE.

Troy, when things got all jumbled up, were you on the new updated design or the old format? If on the updated design, would you mind checking again and see if you still have this ability? What does your Instant Queue look like? Does it look like mine?
