The tech guy is here right now, he inserted both cards at the same time, did not read the instructions, and while calling to activate he made me run the guided setup again, it started upgrading the card about an hour ago, and it still says Upgrading the CableCARD... Cable Card firmware upgrade in progress... and nothing else.

He is outside in the truck waiting, says it has taken an hour before to upgrade firmware, what do I do, I am pretty sure the firmware upgrade failed by now.

It asked me to continue guided setup and I thought it was done, so I called the tech over, and now its doing it again, he says its for the second card. I have a feeling I am in for a loooong install.

I have Cablevision as well they just installed 2 cards in my box this afternoon as well. Took about an hour to come back up. Still don't have channel guide info though. I am experiencing a lot of pixelation in the HD channels. Curious to see if you have similar issues once your service is up.

Both cards kept repeating the firmware upgrade, tech thinks that they have a bad batch because other Tivo Cablevision installers are having the same issue today.

Next truck roll is from 8a-11a tomorrow for me.

edit: Yeah he only had two cards on him. You would think after the Series 3 has been out since last September, and with all of the bad cards you keep hearing about, they would bring 4 or 5 cards?

Live in Westchester area? My setup went south as well. Firmware went through OK. Had image with some pixelation here and there. Switched to view image on 2nd tuner and it was complete garbage, could not make out any images and the audio stutters and jumps in and out. Restarted unit and had the same problem. Called Cablevision the Tech had me power the unit off and reseat the cards and now all I get after power up is Acquiring channel information.

There are sending a tech back out on Friday to me. I wish they would either sit and wait for the firmware to finish or schedule themselves to be back in a couple of hours to make sure the job was done right instead of me wasting my time.

Are you on Long Island? I have a tech coming on Friday to install my cards.

Why are so many of these cards bad? It has to be intentional on Cablevision's part so that you just give up and keep their crappy equipment.

I know around here with Charter the installers have to fight to be issued extra cards. Dispatch only normally gives them just enough cards for the jobs their assigned, and the installers will use tricks to get extra cards and hide them in their trucks. I've had a few installers tell me this now.

Yeah my cable guy wanted to leave yesterday, told me since he authorized it, as soon as firmware upgraded he would go, I told him he needs to stay until I check the channels. Well the firmware did not even upgrade so woohoo :D

Ugh.... Cablevision is coming out to my house saturday to install 2 cards for my new TivoHD.

Any suggestions?

Should I absolutely insist he follow the Tivo provided instructions?

What point should I let him leave? After everything is completely working? Or is there some downtime while things get setup?

I had this CC firmware upgrade many times and they never finish. Had to replace the cards and the tech always had to bring a lot of them in order to find one that worked. I still don't know why it happens and the cable company says they don't do anything to upgrade any card. It comes from Scientific Atlanta through their network (so they say) but never works with my S3 or 2 other TVs also using CC.

Cablevision/Bronx: seeing same issue with bad batches of Scientific Atlanta cards. anything with date of 5/2007 didn't work. cards with date from 3/2007 worked. Cable guy is coming back today for THIRD day in a row. we've gone through 6 cards now I think.

as far as firmware upgrade goes: it varies, but the one where it took about 15 minutes the card worked, but others that took an hour, no good.

one thing is, you have to have patience when working with these cards. it seems like the scientific atlanta cards take at least 3-4 minutes after you insert them to become operational. then if they need a firmware upgrade, it's another few minutes before that kicks in. in the meantime, you might think the card is no good because the screen gives error messages about the card.

I waited from 8 am to 11 am today for my 2nd appointment. Guy doesn't show.

Apparently they scheduled my appointment for tomorrow and not today. Tried to speak with a manager, they will call back in 24hrs :D So I get to miss another day of work tomorrow while waiting for cablevision guy.

And I am reading this forum and notice that even when cablevision cards do work, people don't get many of their channels, or the 2nd card is pixelated.

I wonder if this will be done within a week? I mean looking at past history I imagine that the tech will show up tomorrow again with two cards, and if I am super lucky, maybe one card will work (probably neither). Then they will promise another truck roll for Friday, but will somehow come on Saturday (just like missing today's appointment).

Oh and the two cablecards installed yesterday that failed firmware were 4 or 5/2007 SA cards.

I ended up having two truck rolls. Eerily similar to one mentioned here. I got almost acceptable performance on tuner 1 (minor pixelation, every minute). Tuner two. total "washes" of pixelation (unwatchable)

cablevision confirmed that signal was perfect on that leg of the line, and their website "house health" network check passed.

After debugging with Tivo, they surmissed that the Tivo must be bad, since I eliminated every other possibility.

My first Tivo is going back to the big box electronic retailer for a refund (per tivo), and I'll spend 1/2 hour on hold with Cablevision convincing them that I am capable of reading the host-id numbers off the screen, and no, I don't want you to roll another truck sometime between 8am-8pm a week from now.

This is starting to scare me. Just picked up my TiVo-HD, used to have an original one up until a year ago from 2000. Got rid of it because I didn't have any non-HD tv's in my house anymore. I have cablevision coming out next saturday, here is to hoping they figure this out before next week. Maybe I will get luck, it just usually doesn't work out that way for me though. In the process of doing guided setup, I am hoping I will get everything besides they pay channels e.g., HBO. I can live without that for a while. Can watch Entorauge dowstairs on a SA8300HD....

The saga continues, cablevision just came at 10am. They sent a regular contractor out with no cable-cards, they thought we just needed to install cablevision's regular blue and white smartcards.

So the tech says someone will call us, they call us 5 minutes later and tell us that we needed a special tech with CableCARDS. So they try to reschedule us AGAIN, for another day.

Mind you on Monday they came, only had two cards, both failed the firmware upgrade, then they missed their Tuesday appointment at 8am, moved it to Wednsday, sent the wrong tech out.

I told the guy this is ridiculous, he is sending another tech out today, but its a whole day appointment, until 8pm. I told them to bring more than 2 cards, since there is a huge failure rate, he said they can only bring two at a time.

**** Cablevision, I feel sorry for any person in Brooklyn who has Cablevision who gets a TivoHD, they have ****ed me over three times already, and I bet you anything, IF the guy comes today, I am sure at least one card will fail again.
