My beautiful, 2007 vintage S3 froze up, and after several useless calls to customer service, Tivo finally agreed to replace it with a new one. It has arrived. How can I tell if it is truly new or a refurbished unit?

Why would you care?

check the manufacture date, then call Tivo an ask them if this is a new model, don't tell them you got the device from them.

By Law... If it is a refurb. It must state that on the invoice/shipping receipt, &/or have a sticker on the back/bottom of the unit that says it's a refurb.
