I currently have the Tivo DVR with the DVD recorder and DIRECTV HD receiver. I have everything hooked up through my surround sound with a receiver. I have my DIRECTV receiver hooked directly to my DLP tv through the HDMI inputs and also hooked to my TIVO. The TIVO is hooked to the receiver for picture. The sound for both is hooked through different inputs through my receiver. I have to change inputs on my tv and channels on the receiver when I toggle back and forth. When I change inputs on the TV I lose the sound on the HDMI input. I have to watch the HDMI and listen to the channel with the TIVO but the sound is off. Why is the sound cutting out on the HDMI inputs?? I just want to watch HD channels through the HDMI inputs and watch recorded shows through the receiver. Please help!!

Have you tried Component or Composite connections to test the setup?

It does sound like a messy setup and their are other easier options to achieve what you are trying to do.

My husband is the one that set it all up and he has checked different set-ups to make sure it isn't the cables. He discovered last night that if he changes the channel on the DIRECTV first and then changes the channel on the TIVO we don't have the problem. It seems like it goes out intermittently. My husband thinks the audio on the TIVO is overriding the audio through the HDMI inputs. We have found a work around but would like to have it fixed so that we don't have to worry about which channel we change first. We just got the DIRECTV on Saturday and this is how they told us to set it up. We haven't had a chance to really try anything else. Does anyone have any tips or pointers?

OK. First things first, what models of equipment do you have?

The Tivo DVR with DVD recorder? The Directv HD Receiver (Probally the HR20) the Home Theater Receiver and the HD TV?

If we know what equipment it is, then we can quide you as to the best way to hook it all up :D
