Well after hooking up a large UHF antenna in my attic and watching analog tv for over a week now, i thought its time to get a digital tuner of some kind. so i went to bestbuy picked up a Panasonic DMR-EZ17 went home and hooked it up. after fighting with it for 24hrs i realized it gets great reception but its recording capabilities are lacking and the fact that it has no program guide really sucks! So my girlfriend said lets get a Tivo, i said sure but wich one the Tivo HD or the Series 3?

So this is where you guys come in, i need help deciding on which one.
I only use OTA so it has to be one of those models.

Thanks

Check out this thread for more details about TiVo HD's.

Check out this post for spec comparisons.

We have an S3 and love it but will probably replace our S2's w/TiVo HD's as they appear to be better situated architecturally for the future.

A few more questions:
Do you have to use the tivo wireless g adapter or can you use any wireless usb adapter?

whats the biggest difference besides cost between tivo HD and series 3?
You can try using other adapters, some work and some don't. The TiVo Wireless Adapter is recommended not only for compatibility, but IIRC it actually off loads some of the processing activity to TiVo itself for a better response.

Check out the previous spec compairson thread link above for a detailed list of differences between the TiVo HD and the S3.

No problem...that's what forums are for. ;)

Yes, TiVo will work fine using a phone line. HOWEVER, you will not be able to take advantage of the broadband/online features. If they don’t interest you or your girlfriend, then a phone line is all you’ll need to get the program guide/schedules and updates as they become available.

Pick one that suits your needs and give it a try...there's a 30 day money back guarantee that allows you to return TiVo and cancel your subscription. Doubt if you will...they are great, but there's a "safety net" just in case.
