Help me win a TiVo Contest!

Hey Everyone,

I'm a finalist in the mytivogetsme.com video contest! The contest is down to the final twenty and the winners are determined by votes.

I thought where better to try and cheerleader myself some support than the Tivo Community Boards!

By logging into www.mytivogetsme.com (you'll need to register, but its quick and painless), and clicking View Contest Finalists, you can find my profile as well as three other community finalists:

TiVoDaddy, CloudBurner, Jtlytle, and Big

My video should be on the second row, sixth from the left.

I made a little cheesy dedication to my family and our TiVo. I hope you all find it enjoyable.

Thanks for the support! I'm a big-time TiVo advocate and have loved the sense of community this great little box brings.

Hey there TiVo Community,

Just a quick note to say that our Community has another contest finalist member.

On the Contest Finalist page - first row - first from the left - cloudburner.

In the video I talk about flying a hot air balloon (thus cloudburner) - the crazy cold winter day spent freezing at the bottom of a rock quarry - and some of the great unique TV programs that the TiVo Keyword Season Pass has been able to record for us over the years.

I don't know how many of the finalists are in this community - but do know that the top 4 vote getters will be winners - so if you like the videos of each community member - go ahead and give each of us 5 stars - that'll help all of us over those that haven't joined the community.

I too have been an advocate of TiVo since we got our Series One, and appreciate your support.

Thanks!

Any other finalists out there?

I'd probably vote for the one with the most posts here.
This has got to be one of the worst web sites that I have seen. Stupid audio everytime the mouse passes over something. And everytime I use the mouse's back button i lose everything on the screen and even refresh won't restore it. Don't think I'll be viewing many of these videos.

Navigating the website is awkward - the best anyone can do is to not use "BACK"

Once you're into the site - from just about any page (especially when you're done looking at one Profile page) - to go to another Profile - Click the red “Vote for contest finalists” and then “Contest Video Gallery” - and it should go more smoothly.
cloudburner, did you know you can set up a single wishlist for BALLOON* (pause gives you the *) which will catch "Balloon", "Ballooning", "Balloonists", etc.?

No - that is one that I didn't know about - The wildcard makes sense - Thanks!

(I hope you liked the video - It was my first time at writing a script - etc.)
It would be awesome to see both the names TiVoDaddy and Cloudburner and jtytle in the final four winners!

I knew that the REAL TiVo lovers would have to be part of this community as well. :)

You guys are right about the website being a little difficult to navigate.... I love the versatility of Flash sites, but being unable to use a back button does make things somewhat cumbersome.

Many thanks to those who will be voting! Please post in here if you do, as I'd like to message each of you my thanks personally!

My wife just called and let me know that my son has caught a cold. Instead of the usual morning routines, they are parked in front of the TiVo watching episodes of Thomas the Tank Engine and drinking OJ. :)

You would of thought a company like Tivo could of come up with a Website a little better than some 12 Year old could of designed.

You'd think so, but this affliction is quite common among large companies that really should know better. Vincent Flanders talks about this a lot in his books and web site .
There's other TCF member in the contest, known as TEST and his video is in 2nd row, 7th ( Next to TiVoDaddy) and his profile is called BIG. Make sure to vote for him too!

Yes I agree. Many companies now Days are using Scripts etc. The good old Days of actual HTML are slowly dieing away. Its just another way companies save Money.

Why not make a list of all Users from this Forum who are in the finals and that way we will all know and can judge accordingly. :D
This is going to sound a little crazy!, but why not vote for the Video you think is best

I liked how you pegged the features that makes a TiVo stand out from the others  BigDaddy - same for your submission. Really good overview of what makes a TiVo DVR stand out from the others
If the voting System has been thought up and designed by Tivo then anythings possible.... perhaps the Video with the least amount of Votes might win... maybe the Winner may be someone who did not even enter :D

Its abit like Tivo's pricing practices... no one really knows for sure.
My understanding is that the top 4 entries will be determined by who ever has the most stars.... so even if you have plenty of 5 star votes, someone with a million one-star votes could be declared a winner. (just what I gathered from the official rules)

As far as a list of community-member finalists, I haven't been able to find others than this thread. I guess the official community-vote-support-group is composed of:

TiVoDaddy, CloudBurner, Jtlytle, and Big

If there are others, let me know and I will edit this post accordingly.

Shady, by all means vote for the ones you think are best. I just figured there's no harm in campaigning, as the finalists were told to get friends and family to vote. And what better group of friends than a community of TiVo enthusiasts! :)

ZeoTiVo, thanks for the kind words. :) I couldn't settle on one feature, and believe that the TiVo as a whole unit helps my life in many ways as a parent, television-watcher, technology enthusiast, and all around geek.

Once again, thanks to all who voted, and those who will be voting. I think I can say on behalf of the other finalists who are TC members, we really really really appreciate your support.

Make sure to watch the last one, the one without a head shot. It has a baby in it (Zoe Rose?) and she is screaming bloody murder, but very cute. :)
