I just expanded to a 4TB drive for my 5-year-old OTA-only 500 Bolt (series 6, TE3).

After recording a few broadcast movies last night, this morning I noticed that one had a green dot. I never noticed green dots before. I looked at the details and see “Keep Until” and “Keep Through” options. I always set Keep Until to “I delete it”. But this setting seems to be undermined by the Keep Through setting—I can choose a number of days but not forever.

What is the purpose of Keep Through? Is about copyright protection?

(I tried searching the forum but the search engine doesn’t do well with more than 1 word (ie, “keep until”)—it finds all occurrences of “keep” and “until”. Ugh.)

Thanks.

Keep Through is an guess as to what TiVo will do when your drive becomes "full". On shows without the KUID set will just change their Keep date until your box sends then to the Recently Deleted folder. There they live until your disk really is full, then the bottom (usually oldest) gets killed off. Also, KUID flag will get set on programs that have been transferred from a different TiVo on your network. It takes a few weeks for that to happen.

Your default setting should be applied to new 1P & recordings made in Settings/User Preference/One Pass & Recording Options. Your problem may be a side effect of expanding your drive.

@JoeKustra You're mistaken.

There are 2 settings (Keep Until and Keep Through) on some recordings (those with a green dot), and only 1 (Keep Until) on others (those with a blue dot).

Keep Until can be set to Until I Delete It. But the recordings with "Keep Through", this setting can be set to only a date up to 30 days. Which to me means that the recording will be deleted no matter what I want.

If none of your recordings have a green dot, then you can't see what I'm talking about.

I have a TE4 Roamio and a TE3 Premiere and 90% of them have a green dot. I just checked one that has been there for about a year. I has a grayed out Keep Until of 7/31, which is same for all the programs with a green dot. There are a few with a blue dot which shows Keep Until of 7/6. That will move out in time daily and will not be deleted.

I never set KUID. The TiVo set it for me. I transferred those (blue and green) via TiVo Online.

This should be translated to be "Keep until space needed"
Shows are not eligible to be deleted until the date. They won't get deleted until the space is needed. Its normal for this setting. Until the drive gets above 90% full, all shows will not get deleted. The thing to avoid is "Keep Until I Delete" which will stop recording when it gets full.

Blue dot just means recently recorded.

Nothing gets deleted until Recently Deleted folder gets emptied, followed by any suggestions.
