The Equipment:
Phillips S1 standalone PTV100 HDr 110
120gb HD ADrive only

The Symptoms:
Does not boot, hangs at your tivo is starting up graphic.
Hard Drive does spin.

Attempted fixes:
Unplug, attempted reboot, pulled original drive and restore backup, tried booting using original hard disk, hooked HD power to spare computer and tried to boot tivo.

mounted partition 9 and looked in the logs to see not a single log has been updated.

seagate HD scan showed harddrives passed.

Powersupply? Board? IDE controler? FIXABLE??

HELP, the kids mentioned something about the gallows....

From what you've described, I'd guess it's a board failure. The drive spinning shows that enough of the logic is working as is the video output, but something else is awry.

Hmm - try this. Replace the button-cell battery on the board (you may have to remove the board to do so.)

That TiVo is going on, what, 10 years old?

10 years... yeah probably so. Has a lifetime sub, hence the reason I hate to get rid of it.

Will think about the battery, not sure what else to do.

Probably a visit to tivo.com and see what kind if deal I can get.

Thanks

Mike

If all else fails, you can always put it back in factory condition, call TiVo Corp., and send it in for repair. Not under warranty, obviously. I don't know what the current repair rates are. But something around $150 might be worth saving the lifetime subscription.

If it's that old is the lifetime still transferrable on that unit?

You could upgrade to a TivoHD and put your repair costs towards a new unit, instead.
