I'm a big Stephen King fan. This is a 10 part series starting tonight on HBO. It looks like it may be like "True Detective" with a supernatural part to it.

Anyone else going to watch this?

I enjoyed the book. I’ll add this to my watch list for the next time I subscribe to HBO to catch up on things.

It'd a sequel of sorts to the Mr. Mercedes/Bill Hodges trilogy. Audience did a good job on adapting the first three books, I only wish they'd gotten this one as well. If I had HBO I'd watch it. But alas, I'm going to have to wait till HBO has another free weekend on DTV and binge it then.
Watched the first two episodes. Bateman is directing as well as starring and he's killing it on both. SK has always been my favorite author since I stole my older sister's book, Salem's Lot, when I was a kid. I usually am not much of a fan of TV/Movie adaptions of his work but so far, this is spot on.

Good to know. I also watched the first two. I am definitely in. Ben Mendelsohn, who usually pays an a-hole, is very likeable here and seems to really want to do the right thing. Was surprised by the first episode ending. Did not see that coming.

I saw the first episode right before bed last night and loved it. I didn't now there was a second one released today or I would have watch it last night too. I have been a fan of Jason Bateman since he was a kid. I agree he is doing an outstanding job.

I read The Shining, which was my mother's book of the month when I was a freshman in highschool. Then I got hooked my King too.

I'm not a huge SK fan, but I've liked some of the movie adaptions. I didn't record this but it sounds like something I might like, so I'll probably go back and record the first two. Might save it for a binge though, depending on time and all that good stuff.
Just read that this is written by the same person who wrote The Night Of. A series I loved but ultimately let me down in the end. I could see this happening here as it is not a "normal" crime drama.

Well the original story is written by Stephen King and so far the show adaptations aren't drawing outside the lines so I'd say if you enjoy how SK ends his stories, you're all good.

Agree.

Green Mile, Shawshank, The Shining, and Stand By Me are 3 very good adaptations. Shawshank being my one of my all time favorite movies.

Those books were also all normal length very good books. Then he got so popular no editor can tighten up his writing and he tends to go on and on.

TL;DR
I just read The Stand because it comes up at the top of many apocalyptic novel lists. Unfortunately I could not find a Kindle version of the original release that was 'only' ~900 pp. He re-released it at a staggering 1440 pages long adding in the stuff that his editor originally cut out. I am a fairly fast reader and it took me nearly a month to get through it.

How he releases one or more 800 page books per year. I have no idea how he does it and suspect that he directs a team of writers under the King brand name.

Meanwhile writers like Jeffrey Eugenides put out one book every 10 years.

Just finished the second episode and all I can say is WOW. I'm really enjoying this, even better than true detective.

I clap for you Jason Bateman. <Clap> <Clap> More!

My thoughts exactly when I finished the first two! I really love Jason Bateman. His directing and acting are top notch........ reminds me I need to catch up on Ozark!

Great two episodes. Sucked in. Hope it keep stick the landing.

I will say the time jumps are annoying. Just not a fan of where every scene you have to figure out if it was before or after an event.
Going forward that looks to no longer be a thing. (hopefully)

Shawshank is actually a rather short novella. But this is one of the rare movies that is better than the book. For example, as far as I remember, the book didn't have the opera playing over the loudspeaker (love Red's line "to this day I don't know what those 2 Italian ladies were singing about, and I don't want to know"); also, I don't think the released con hanging himself was in the book.

To me The Outsider was a mediocre King effort.
Watched these today. Very good, a definite keeper. I'm not an SK book fan, and I don't typically like the supernatural (and not sure if that's where we're going). But the first two episodes were so well done, great acting, great story, so I'm in. As mentioned above, had a The Night Of feel, the way the story is unfolding.
My sister and I are excited for the 3rd episode this Sunday. King has had some good shows and movies based on his work. I think the last one I saw was the Hulu's 11:22:63.
There's something about this show that keeps you hooked to the screen. The writing, the directing, the acting... all combine to make this a very addictive watch. I have no idea where they're going, haven't read the book, but I find myself getting immersed when I watch, and then surprised when the credits roll and I realize it's already been an hour.

Last night was another very good episode. Wiki shows a total of ten episodes.
Agree. This is one of those few shows that I put away the laptop. Yes, I'm one of those that surf while watching TV. I know, I know...

So now we sorta know who that man is that Terry Maitland daughter is seeing. And does that mean we will see Bateman again?
Loved the 3rd episode. I watched the first one with a friend and he is hooked but wanted to know where it was going? Supernatural? I told him I honestly don't know but it probably will be supernatural.
