Hard Drive Diagnostic Tools

My Sony SAT-T60 is stuck in a re-booting loop. I've tried unplugging the unit for awhile but the loop remains.

What is the best way to diagnose the condition of the hard drive? Can I connect it as a 2nd HD to a Windows PC, and then run chkdsk? Will this utility even work with a TiVo-formatted HD? Or, can I download a program from the HD manufacturer's website and use that? Lastly, is there a program specifically designed to "check the disk" of a TiVo hard drive?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

chkdsk won't work. It's probably not a good idea to even boot Windows with it attached.

Spinrite is a popular diag tool, but it's costly.

If you're looking for something free, try the website of the drive's manufacturer. Most offer free diag programs for download.

Better yet, download the free Ultimate Boot CD, which contains diags from numerous manufacturers.
