**** UPDATE **** 1/23/20
Below is my original post. Found out this Tivo is an evaluation 11 status box. Quick question would be any way around the evaluation service? Clearing it?

Just asking.

***************************************************
Have a Roamio Pro I'm trying to setup. It has older software on it - 20. something.
Plug it in and it's "starting up", then "a few more minutes", then gets to the screen to choose a country. I go through the next couple screen steps and eventually end up at the "Getting Setup Info" screen. Goes through the steps on the screen (downloading info takes a while). When I get to the last step "loading info", it completes and THEN the box reboots. Eventually ending at the "choose country" screen.

Spoke with Tivo and they tell me there's nothing they can do. Aside from offering me costly replacements.

Tried a couple of kickstart codes to no avail.

Any suggestions?

Remove the hard drive, hook it up to a PC and check the health with free Crystal Disk Info software. If the drive is good, try deleting the partition in windows disk management to wipe out the tivo file system and put the drive back in the tivo so it has to reinstall the tivo software. If the drive is bad, check this forum for recommended replacement drives.

I wiped the drive on my PC. Reinstalled and it did the same thing. It took a whole day to wipe. I'm guessing the evaluation box may be programmed on a chip so it doesn't update? Is that possible?

Did you check the health of the drive? What is the date on the label of the drive? If you're using the original drive, it's probably 5-7 years old. I'd try a new hard drive.

Hard drive tested fine. Formatted the drive. Reinstalled and box did the same reboot thing at the same spot as before. Most likely a chip on the board is programmed so I cannot complete setup OR once formatted, when trying to setup for first time (you must be connected to Tivo to complete setup). Once connected to Tivo, Tivo knows (via tsn#) that the box is an evaluation receiver and downloads the software that stops the completion of a setup. Therefore making you call and then pay for service. Just a guess.

I think you should try a different drive anyway especially if the drive you are using is the original drive.

Have you located and installed a recent version of the TiVo Software for that device?

I doubt the issue is because it's an 'evaluation' unit.

It will not update software. Won't load it. Tried codes and tried loading via demo version. Always reboots at last step "loading info" of Getting Setup Info screen. Reboots, and gets to "choose country" screen which starts the whole process over until "loading info". Tivo mentioned to me it will not update until paid service is active. That being said, it says Lifetime in my account page, but Tivo told me that IT WAS lifetime until original owner was no longer the owner. Maybe a Tivo employee was previous owner? I don't know.

Tivo will not allow any software update unless I pay for a service (even though it says Lifetime in my account). Unless I'm missing a way to locate and install as you recommend. Please let me know if there's a way other than forcing a connection. And again, doing so ends up at the "getting Setup Info" screen and on the last step "loading", nothing loads and it reboots.
